Extreme cooling journey

For a while I've been the owner of a cascade phasechange unit. I have used it a couple of times for testing, and recently did some benchmarks with the cooler.
I'm trying to figure it all out, and given the lack of time recently there isn't a lot of progress but I'm trying to record some of it so I can share that here or elsewhere. 
There are more ideas brewing, but I'm not rushing any of that. More to come, hopefully

...can't quite tell the fan air flow direction (looks like blowing inwards towards the socket though)... fyi, some XOCers like the two helper fans turned around so that they help evacuate potentially moist air away from the socket and surrounding electrical bits...in my personal experience though, it doesn't make a ton of difference

The fans are blowing inward.

So I see little to no ice buildup around the socket after a 2 hour session. The board is covered with liquid tape between the inductors and the same area on the back. The back has one layer of armaflex clamped between the board and the LN2 pot backplate and a second layer underneath and there is an armaflex ring around the evap base. I stuff as much shop towel between the threads of the mount and the evap base/armaflex to catch whatever moisture escapes, but after breaking down they were all dry. It feels very efficient, for what I can tell with limited experience. The fans are there to cool the VRM, but if I notice any moisture I will add extra fans in an outward direction. As for LN2, I bet that will make a bit more difference with buildup.

This weekend I've been playing with dry ice on an MSI RX5700XT.
It was my first time with dice and running a GPU sub ambient (the previous attempts with the cascade didn't go so well). It was fun and I learned a few things at the same time, for instance: don't put too much dice and acetone in the pot or it will boil over the edge and make the GPU stop working
I managed to take back my gold in TimeSpy (for now) and get a second place in WildLife Extreme for the team competition.
Near the end of todays run the pot started leaking, acetone is dirty stuff and makes its way through threads sealed with Loctite. The shop towel protecting the motherboard was getting wet from Acetone, not ideal.

Thanks, this once was my F@H frame and is now enjoying life as the bench frame.
It is really enjoyable to work with this setup, being able to walk around makes it even better!

Yeah, my first advice would be to stay sober during sessions like this
The preparation is key and takes 90% of the time, but it's easy to mess things up and I'm glad I didn't. I bet if I do this more often things will go smoother, less figuring out and more fun.

Regarding the diamond plate, if you would be in my line of work I bet you would have a lot of F&F flashbacks. Most of the enginerooms are covered in diamond plates

A 'little' update:
Friday I received some dry ice again to run hardware subzero for fun, and for the Country Cup. 
As the first victim, we had the RX5700XT again for Unigine Superposition 1080P Extreme which was limited to RDNA 1.0. Why am I saying we? Because @server075 and @kaliz were on stream almost all the time, supporting me with all the info I needed, taking screenshots from the stream and keeping me motivated (all the way through the night). Thanks again boys, good times!
Lucky for me, the card was already in 'cold trim' and had some additional mods to help her do a little better. Sadly I didn't get my flexible heaters in time, which are needed instead of a normal heater because I moved a few capacitors to the back of the PCB to make clearance for the GPU pot. Anyways, here are some pictures and the result (one of them  )

I added more insulation to the back of the card to reduce the risk of it causing shorts. Up and running, testing Superposition:

Onto the next subject, an AMD 4300G. This one was the most fun we had, as it ran full pot (constant -76°C) for almost 5 hours until I decided to quit. The hardware itself was totally happy, besides the ASRock x570 Taichi being a bit weird with a lot of missing settings. The main reason for choosing this hardware is that this was a fitting CPU for another part of the Country Cup. 
The setup, figuring out some settings on the fly as it was a sort of last minute decision to switch and prep this board.

Due to the mass of the pot, and the minimal dissipated heat from a cute 4 core CPU it would run just fine without any dry ice in the pot. It would only heat up about one degree with the benchmark running at any subzero temperature we tested, and because it was totally new to me we did steps of about 10 degrees. Starting at -20°C all the way to hours of full pot fun.


And this is what it looks like after many hours of benching:


For the final kilo's of dry ice I decided to ask @L0wPull if I could sacrifice the ASUS B650E-I Gaming Wifi motherboard that I bought from him for a prior competition with the 'guarantee' of him buying it back soon after.
He told me to go for it, but I would have to keep it... Why not?
The CPU for this one was an AMD 7700X and a kit of G.Skill A-Die, with some pretty good results!

I just love it how this MASSIVE Kingpin Trex Rev 3 makes the board almost dissapear. With the pretty GT1030 from Galax which @L0wPull found for me it's one of the funniest looking bench setups I had so far.

And yeah, it's real cool stuff! I can't wait to start playing with LN2... For now -102°C is the most extreme I've done
