Hello all,

With a view of having more of the topic title showing on each topic block in the "Latest" sections, I am thinking of removing the "Started" Date/Time.

So we are all on the same page, I am thinking of removing the below element within the red box

image.png.30ac0f7350e30d94c93ef95dd2ab2624.png

While I could keep the date and time, this would lead to the height of each block becoming rather chunky to a point where It would look undesirable.

I feel that the started date/time element is actually not all that necessary and could be a sensible sacrifice in order to not have the topic title as truncated as it currently is and have the title carry on to a second line if necessary.

Please see the attached poll and vote for or against this change 🙂

Thanks,

E

Personally I wouldn't mind each line being chunky as long as longer titles can be displayed, but if the "started by" part had to go in order to make the titles more visible, that would be a worth while trade off.

looks kinda weird 😢

image.png.9a45261f22193c0fcdf864b68d28bf2d.png

if you remove it, maybe move "Started by xxxxx" to the next line? Would give more room for the title and it'd look cleaner.

If you're trying to reduce the height of the rows for more threads then then it wouldn't really solve anything tho.

2nd what Pookie said. The date/time of the thread creation should be kept as it's relevant and should help prevent necro posts.  I don't care if the creation time is removed, but please keep the date.

I think the issue here is resolution as the latest section obviously thrives more when it has more screen real estate and ultimately is better, I will have to discuss with the dev how these elements scale depending on resolution and try and improve the experience for smaller screens.

Yes, I think we could combine the date with the name keeping it on the same line.

What about if you don’t show the start date but rather when the thread was created expressed in time past.

E.g., 2 days ago instead of January 8th 2024.

That might help reduce text whilst still keeping the date referenced so people understand that thread is recent / relevant?

Just trying to find a middle ground that helps meet your goals.

I still want to see a name for who last updated the thread.

Right now I think it just shows the avatar for the last person who posted in a thread, but no username or the last time it was updated.

I had noted this in Skype with you previously when we tried to fix this a while back with some different things

I will put together some concepts and pop them in here later this evening. Each concept will have a Widescreen version, for those with monitors larger than a laptop and a laptop/mobile version. To give a rough idea on look depending on screen types.

I will likely hard limit the topic titles to 2 lines, after which point truncation will kick in. This is to prevent overly long titles making each "block" too tall.

Hello all,

Feasibly, and taking into account some of the feedback, I think we have the below options.

1. "Started By" Date only,

Example on a larger resolution

LatestPostsOption1.jpg.afe738435a334c1699362188dc2eb1bd.jpg

Example on a smaller resolution

LatestPostsOption1(Laptop).jpg.b4313eb0b281063b0358a1fc2e07815b.jpg

2. "Started By" Date with last user to update the thread.

Example on a larger resolution

LatestPostsOption2.jpg.1354bb03b42bb9debdd215b87e1a7d5d.jpg

Example on a smaller resolution

LatestPostsOption2(Laptop).jpg.830a6724a7140e8edc86d3403dc3d343.jpg

3. "Started By" with no date with the last user to update the thread

Example on a larger resolution

Example on a smaller resolution

Soon I will put these up (plus any other ideas on a poll vote). Once chosen I will speak to the dev and see what we can make happen.

I would vote for the second one. I don't mind the threads being ticker on mobile, most things are thicker on mobile.

Perhaps it can be shortened further though. Maybe instead of "started by: Enterprise, Updated by: Pioneerisloud", it could just say "OP: Enterprise, Last: Pioneerisloud"

2 or 3 if those are the only options, but I'd rather see the time/date of the last post rather than the time/date of when the thread was created.

Thanks for the feedback 🙂 I will do another mock up with Ultra's suggestion but perhaps use a short form date for the last update such as 11/01/24 @ 10:45.

I would have to see if I can have it so that the date format matches a users locality...otherwise it may confuse some.

Further from my last post, this is option 4, decided to go with long form date layout to avoid confusion due to different localities.

I actually prefer the darker text for that part, easier for the eyes to focus on the title that way. Certainly not a big deal either way tho.

Apologies if I’m late to the topic;

one of the biggest things I find annoying about the “latest” section is that it tells me who started the topic, rather than when the last post was.

I found myself visiting the same threads often, thinking there had been an update because it was at the top of the “Latest” list, and then realizing it hadn’t changed at all.

My 2c ; “last post by xxx 2 days ago” is much more pertinent information than who the OP is, imo. That last example is fantastic!

Does the date represent the start date or the last / latest post? I am assume the latter 🙂 Also, I like where this was going. I think OP will work well because most people here or on this type of forum understand it means "Original Post" or "Original Poster".

Glad you're getting rid of the duplication of "started".
