MalwareBytes: Ticketmaster confirms customer data breach

Recommended Posts

Likely of special interest to those who use Ticketmaster:

Live Nation Entertainment has confirmed what everyone has been speculating on for the last week: Ticketmaster has suffered a data...

Quote

The user data likely refers to the sales ad for 560 million customers’ data that was posted online earlier this week by a group calling themselves ShinyHunters. The data was advertised for $500,000 and says it includes customer names, addresses, emails, credit card details, order information, and more.

I heard this on the radio, but at the time it was unconfirmed. Fortunately I have never used the service, so no issue for me but I do have family that have used it so will have to alert them.

I'm sort of happy that they got hacked. They're a terrible company and charge too much money, yet rip the artists off. They deserved this.

They completely screwed me out of, I want to say it was like $50 a few years back.  Bought early tickets to my local annual fair, but I moved away and couldn't use the tickets (bought the tickets in January, fair wasn't until October).  Got ahold of ticket master, "You can't go pick up your tickets?  No?  Oh well you can have somebody else pick them up for you....".......  NO, I don't live there I just want my money back.  "Oh sir, we don't offer refunds".

Literally never even picked up the tickets, and I asked for the refund like 3 months before the event even happened. -_-

Sir you only paid the overly expensive "convenience fee" to buy them digitally online. You forgot to also pay for the additional overly expensive insurance to give you the option to refund your already overly expensive ticket purchase.

I just bought a pair of tickets to a show in November because If I don't and they sell out, the scalpers would be charging even more. Still $160 for a pair of tickets to a show and a big chunk of it is just fees. I didn't add the insurance so they aren't refundable either.

Since its so much more inefficient for a system that is completely automated to handle the sale of tickets online they must add a service charge per ticket. You can avoid this by driving to the venue in person and paying some minimum wage employee at the ticket window for your tickets. The catch being that the ticket office isn't open on the weekends, or lunchtime, or after 4pm etc...

Basically they just make up whatever BS they want and people will pay it.

Yeah, they're a terrible company; but the reason for the op was the hacking itself, which often results in identity theft these days.

Happened to  me  and if I had  my  druthers, such hackers would be dealt with  my  way:

When tickets are in demand,go on sale on a monday morning,it's kinda self defeating to drive to the bok center to buy tickets "Hours of Operation. The box office at BOK Center is open Tuesday - Friday, 11AM – 3PM." 🤨

Ticket prices are outrageous anymore. I spent $8.50 for 6 rows from the stage in the 80's at a Judas Priest concert in Philly, here's a screenshot of ticket prices for pairs of Barry Manilow tickets at the BOK center.(price is for EACH ticket so x's 2)

Thanks for the heads up, I go to a ton of concerts and they've got a stranglehold on it.  Will let the GF know too, both of us have spent wayyyyy too much through  ticketmaster and livenation over the years.
