I have the HP+ pads. They don't really dust at all - my rotors do though lol. The pads do require a bit of warm-up and that can surprise you if you aren't aware about it in low temp conditions.

edit - actually not sure if my rotors are dusting or the pads. I assume the rotors because they're really old and need replacing - but could be the pads too. Either way, I dont think you can go wrong with stoptech, hawk, project mu, or whatnot at this pricepoint. For what it's worth - stoptech got sold to a Chinese company rather recently and is moving their production to China - so expect a drop in quality. It's enough to make me avoid their BBK and I'm going to go with Wilwood or AP Racing instead.

Expand

Thanks for the heads up about Stoptech's production, hopefully the brakes I bought were from a better quality factory.  That said, the HP+ are not available for the "non-sport" version of my car (2 piston vs 4 piston) so it was either the standard HPS or Stoptech Sports for more money.  Good or bad, the HPS went out of stock and I ended up finding the stoptech's $10 cheaper on another retailer (amazon).

I also meant that the stop tech's' apparently dust a lot more than the HPS, which I'm ok with as long as the performance justifies it.  My current "performance" akebono ceramics are no longer made and they were already slightly better than what I had but don't dust at all.  I know dust is typically a compromise with performance so hopefully the stoptech's don't disappoint me.    Thanks for the heads up on cold performance too, I will definitely have to keep it in mind (though my climate should help a bit here).  I prefer not to use my brakes so I rarely get them too hot unless I'm hitting a spirited run or need an emergency stop of course.

I'm also hoping there is enough life on the OEM rotors to get one more surface clean and pad slap out of them.  If not I'm just getting some decent brand treated blanks and not bothering with slotted non sense.   Going to likely order some ATE TYP 200 brake fluid again as it seems the best price/performance for a street car that want's the brake fluid to NEVER be the failing point.

My order from Z1 motorsport *should* be here tomorrow so I'm looking forward to that.

So I meant to reply, but forgot. The MAF is very likely if you have one, MAFs kinda suck in terms of reliability. I'd avoid additives of any kind (except maybe fuel stabilizer if you *have* to use it) because you don't want to have issues like me lol. I don't think it's fuel additive, but something definitely slowly gunked up my entire fuel system so now replacing every, single, piece is a nightmare.

After the MAF - I would pull the plugs to actually check if one bank is running rich or not - as pulling them is most of the effort, replace them (and use a proper tool and torque wrench... you don't want bits of spark plug in places they shouldn't be). After that it might be a precat going if you have an O2 sensor per precat? If you have only a single O2 (ie; no primary/secondary) then it's unlikely.... after that... how does your oil look?

Expand

Sorry to hear.

Yeah will do. I replaced the plugs around 75k miles per the schedule. It uses iridium plugs. I got the tools and torque wrench to take a look.

But yeah will start with the MAF. After being off for a solid week, the damn CEL came on again.

Neat! They fit me 95% well, and given the price I'm not looking for the other 5%. What I find shocking is they are the most comfortable seat I own - even more than my office chair lol. I guess my back/spine is weird. This is for my passenger side so I have a matching pair 🙂

I wasn't really happy with the stock shift knob in the mustang. It's just too small and I don't like the two tone metal and leather. I was going to buy a white Bullitt knob from Ford performance but $145 was a bit steep for a shift knob. Comparing to the $400 dark horse titanium knobs it almost seems justifiable... Then I saw that  AmericanMuscle had these Speedform knobs on sale for $25. I love it. It's just a little bit larger which fits my hands better. The pattern is engraved so it won't wear off like the cheapo eBay knobs that are just printed on. Saved a bunch of money that can go towards other upgrades.20231130_102105.thumb.jpg.7224b1ddc575d70ec1638e6d11201ec0.jpg

My Sync 3 upgrade also showed up. Now I just need a warm weekend to install it along with the new door speakers I've had sitting in the corner for a month 😂

Yeah, but S2K.

I did once use 1/4 of a tank in like 70km though, which is 15.5L/100km. A lot of that was driving somewhat normally, For about 18km of that 70km, I used 1/8 of a tank which is like 31L/100km.

Well, had my brakes looked at by the only mechanic in the area I trust (me and the gf have been going to the same guy near enough two decades).  Apparently my rotors, calipers, pads, etc. on all four are perfect.  I'm still getting ridiculous brake noise on the front passenger and if I heat them up it makes it much louder.  Wondering if this is as simple as the metal expanding and hitting the dust shield..  Waste of $80 on the stop tech pads but I guess it's good to have them in advance.

Got the aluminum oil cap installed... it's the simple things in life sometimes.  Doesn't get hot to the touch and it's so much easier to remove.  Ask Nissan/Infiniti owners about the crap stock oil cap and the fact that you end up using pliers or a mallet to get it loose...

Windshield washer tank cap also replaced... and again a case of crappy oem design, the plastic used makes something from the dollar store feel like luxury.

Also changed out my AFE "Magnum FLOW Pro DRY S Air Filters" for some Z1 motorsports dry flow replacements and the fitment is much better.

Now I have to actually do the parts that require actual effort... such is the life of the lazy.

Sometimes you need those little victories to keep going. I've never been one for under hood bling, but if it's a functional upgrade I'm all for it.

I hate working on brakes... I have had new pads, rotors, lines etc for the Miata for over a year now putting off upgrading. After redoing the whole braking system on my clapped out E30 I just lost all interest in the car.

It's that time of year where all the motorcycles I want are cheap enough I'd actually buy them. So I have had a little bit of urge to finish up the E30 so I can sell it and get the garage space back ðŸ˜‚

Yea, brakes were installed quite a long time ago and the issue has really gotten much worse over the past few months.  Even in very hard braking they seem to function fine so maybe a shim failed, though I'd imagine that would be quite rare.

Finally got around to fixing the one thing I hated about this car which was lack of Android Auto. Normally I'd get an aftermarket unit. Newer cars use the display for a bunch of other stuff like climate control so it was simpler to stick with an OEM option. The parts for the conversion came out to $584 which is reasonable to me considering the quality of life upgrade. While I was in there I upgraded the center speaker to an Infinity reference 3.5". I have a couple more of these to put in the upper door location. It got dark before I got to those. Once those are in I'll decide if I need to do the tweeters, lower doors, and rears. 20231216_164052.thumb.jpg.fd6a75b9b1cbc0c0b51176c2731cfee5.jpg20231216_172925.thumb.jpg.5d59244fad3531c0b0f97a5c6f1bda7f.jpg
