...new car smell at 00077km 😋; also vehicle was approved by both my fav Percheron horse, Mr. Grit, and old-reliable in one of my fav forests.

This thing takes off like a banshee at the traffic light if in 'Sport' and 'Xtraboost' mode...just ask the undercover-cop I drag-raced in her police-pack Charger; she had a sense of humour, though, and let me off with a warning after I showed her the odometer and pled utter ignorance about electric boost 🤭

Never had a bike and still want one.  Though I'd probably end up dead on one with the idiots that drive around here (especially with the random can't see a foot in front of you downpours).... and if that doesn't get my adrenaline junkie habits will.  That said, I'd really like to have a dual purpose bike so I can take it off and on road as needed.

Yesterday, I had the realization that my Lexus has 2.5x Alfa Mito fuel tanks worth of fuel in it that I put in about 8 months ago. It's basically £145 worth of fuel that last year I paid £110 for. So time to yeet that into the Alfa.

...took the beemer PHEV out to some of the mountainous roads after I disabled most of the annoying 'driver aids' 🤪   ...just about a 600 km total on the odometer now - so far, plugged it in only a few times (at freebie chargers, zero cents paid so far for electricity), but re-gen has contributed significantly to a fuel consumption of about half of what the previous X5 used on the same driving cycle.

Last pic = massive torque for speedy launches  😄

Did somebody say car repair?

Did some of that today. Everything is so rusted 99% of this job is fighting with seized parts. I envy those of you in southern climates, I really do.

IMG_20240522_163101.thumb.jpg.480c3861819faaa00090be35d61c940f.jpg

Had to cut this sway bar end link free. Fought with it trying to remove the thing the proper way and after 3 hours it was time to break out the angle grinder.

IMG_20240522_163736.thumb.jpg.1a8b332c338deb9b9a4857ff3cb5c46d.jpg

Hey look spare parts! At least I think this old thing is a spare part. 🤔

IMG_20240522_164447.thumb.jpg.dc934d9121df56d14e3c8e9e26be6678.jpg

This is where we are at now, tomorrow I will pull the knuckle free from the remaining two nuts holding it in place.

IMG_20240522_170356.thumb.jpg.0b8d97750cb72384872f139ab54a6cd6.jpg

I'm cheating a little bit and replacing the ball joint/entire knuckle/wheel bearing/hub/caliper/strut so I don't have to be too careful on the removal. 😁

IMG_20240522_170402.thumb.jpg.c3e57f257323aad86e5553c08b180ac7.jpg

This one is going to be fun to crack loose. Appears to be an original part at 215k miles, meaning it's never been broken free. Likely mostly seized in place. Will assault with PB blaster and if needed the acetylene torch. Can't be tight if it's a liquid!

IMG_20240522_170415.thumb.jpg.430820f79309d4c49f99e75d9019625a.jpg

Whole loaded knuckle ready to go on. I hate working with rusted parts. Much nicer to use fresh new parts.

IMG_20240522_170846.thumb.jpg.061aa3066f6b1406b3ba12732160aa6e.jpg

I pulled up a chair cause I'm getting old and figured why not. My pile of parts grew larger as I continued to work. Boy it's been a while since I've done this type of work! I've grown lazy over time lol.

My car would be absolutely immaculate if I didn't have to do with the Florida sun, let alone the humidity on top of it.  There is nothing, and I mean nothing, that instantly ignites anger and impatience as much as swamp ass.  You can shower three times a day but 15 minutes out in what feels like an alien planet and it returns.

Yeah Aurora tends to be one of those places everyone makes fun of. Southern Aurora is ok. Denver has kinda not been great either to be honest lately.

Parts will be arriving soon to finally figure out some brake noise and vibrations..

Centric Semi-Coated Rotors for the front (blanks, no slotted or drilled nonsense)

StopTech Sport front pads (had these but finally putting them in since I'll have new rotors)

RAYBESTOS EHT905H Element3 Hybrid Technology rear pads

and doing a fluid flush with BOSCH ESI6 which apparently exceeds 5.1 DOT spec so it should last a while without needing replacement

Yep I also don't use drilled or slotted nonsense. Been pretty happy with the Bosch rotors and pads I put on 2 summers ago. Will have to let me know how the Centrics treat you.

I was looking at Bosch also but ended up with Centrics due to the slightly cheaper price and the supposed reputation I've read for them on multiple forums.   I didn't go with their budget non coated "c-tek" line which is apparently generic but ok in a pinch.  They are a large manufacturer for multiple brands apparently so for $68 each I'll see how they do.   I was going to go with Z1 Motorsports (as many people do with Z's and G's) but they only offered it with slotted, or slotted & drilled.
