...pics from when it was on the showroom floor before pickup (company lease, 4th beemer, not counting my youth in Europe). Lease is coming up and giving serious thought of buying it out w/ extra BMW warranty - it's been completely trouble free so far...only one issue: Ivory-coloured leather is very nice to look at, but it requires a lot of regular cleaning ?

But I have to agree, the Ivory leather would be a big no for me. Looks really good but would stay clean for max 5 minutes

...it's almost 4 years old now, but drives and looks (incl. the interior) like new. As mentioned, I might pick it up at the end of the company lease in the late summer. BTW, when we got it, I had the dealer throw two bottles of special leather cleaner into the deal (no kidding :classic_laugh: ).

...'back in the day', my own personal cars were things like used TransAms and Corvettes I had rebuilt and modded myself...but squeezing my broad, 6'4'' frame into those isn't that much fun anymore as I get older (and a wee bit wider). Besides, traffic and speed limits these days call for a more spacious, relaxed way for us to get around, while having room for cargo. Also, within 15 min next to the city are a series of mountain ranges > rain, snow, forests service roads, ski trips...

Those bottles would last about a month with me and my dirty work.
I worked as a car mechanic before, the white leather was always fun. Took a lot of effort to keep a car like that clean but with the proper covers we managed.

I'm about 6'3", so I know what you mean. Most of my friends are longer, some of them are 6'5". One of the reasons I own the Vitara, if we go somewhere at least we can all sit in the car without pain..

Can you imagine I feel short most of the time, even while being 6'3"?
But if I stand next to my dad and spread my arm horizontally he can stand under my arm and slightly touch it with his hair :classic_laugh: (he is really short for the average)

...same here - I was taller than my dad when I was 15 or so  :classic_laugh:

...a few drawbacks though. The other day when having the beemer serviced, I went to the showroom and ''''got into'''' a BMW i8. Getting in was bad enough w/ those butterfly doors, but getting out was, ahem, not gracious...same with a friend's Lotus Exige

An Exige is hardtop right? Love those cars but never imagined fitting comfortably into one. Also being able to move the steering wheel far enough towards me is something most cars lack. I installed a spacer between the wheel and the column on the E30(no adjustment) to be comfortable and lowered the seat as much as possible. The T6 and the Vitara are more comfortable, but less fun to drive..

...yup, my friend's Exige is a hardtop (ouch). There's also the intrusion of the wheel wells in that thing...and one foot hits all three pedals at the same time (I'm sorry officer, I wasn't trying to go faster, i was trying to brake...)

...the X5 is a great handler btw, never mind for its size...technically, it is a SAV, not a SUV - at least according to BMW marketing (SAV = Sports Activity Vehicle). This one has the 3L Turbo gas engine, but the prior ones had the twin-turbo diesel...drove one of those straight across much of Canada and back (Vancouver-Toronto-Vancouver, in the Canadian winter...the white one below, during that trip, Crowsnest Pass). Torque is king...

That's something I hate about the T6, my left leg is always numb after a long drive because the well is too high. I can't stretch that leg or change positions, only cross it behind my right leg..
The good thing is that it's a DSG, big brake pedal and enough room for the right foot to hit the skinny pedal (even with the working shoes).

True, I love riding on torque. High revving petrol engines are a lot of fun to drive, but for cars over 6k lbs you need a quick spooling turbo on a decent sized engine (preferably diesel).

That picture looks like a lot of fun! I love the cold, and driving in snow and on ice!

..the previous X5 Diesels had sequential twin turbos (each of a different size)...traffic light getaways were fun, especially in the rain and snow, when those Merc AMG drivers were just watching their traction light flicker...

This is the last picture I took of my Mustang today before I sold it. Very close to the way I bought it aside from the rear spoiler and tint. Still have the GT500 bumper and GT350 wheels and tires to get rid of though. I polished it before the pic.

I was wiping my kids fingerprints from the small interior rear windows thinking of all those Sunday cruises to get breakfast. Got a bit sad because part of me wanted to keep it. I have too many cars. I barely drive anymore since I work from home. Bought it new in 18 and sold it with 32,000 miles. It sat not driven for 5 months. Just came of of Winter though here about a month ago.

An engine like that should be behind you, so no problems with the leg room :)

Maybe a little bit off topic, but I'm pretty sure car guys can appreciate a big engine.

This is what an engine I work on with 141L/8604ci of volume looks and sounds like at 1170rpm with 2.6bar / 38psi of boost(somewhere around 20000Nm/15000ft lbf. 2 of these were in the ship, pulling around 70 metric tonnes. I love those medium speed engines, but this one is running a bit too high imo.

And this is what it looks like outside

Not sure what kinda clutch setup would support that much torque, but once everything is fully engaged you will tear up the road :classic_laugh:

...may be one of those 'AWD' clutches based on silicon-metal' liquid that reacts either to heat and/or induced voltage signal.

...or just go old school w/ two of those Top Fuel slip clutches per engine, but in serial, for the torque...

Top Fuel is crazy! But I'm not sure if a pair of those clutches will hold that torque for long, same goes for driveshafts etc :classic_laugh:
