I originally had just one NF-A12, but have slowly converted the rest of my cooling system to the same fans because I was impressed.

You could just purchase one for now and see if you like it. For me, the quietness of operation was worth the extra cost but I can see why it's a tough choice because dropping over $30 on a fan isn't very economical.

And no, I am not a salesman for Noctua lol

True. But then if I go that route I just end up spending more in the long run. I think I'll mull it over today and then go from there.

Oh I've never seen this channel before. I just found that searching after I had heard the reports. Nice to hear you have no issues.

Edit: Anyway, probably between these and the SW3's at this point. I meant to say was looking at the NF-A12 Chromax fans (accidentally said NF-F12) and seems too expensive from what I see out there. Almost $33 a fan. But does appear to be what I am looking for noise wise for a fan based on charts I've seen around 1000 RPM. I don't know.

Decisions decisions.

I own about 30 SW3's. Can't go wrong. They are fantastic in everyway except price.

Any difference between the regulars or the high RPM PWM versions. Thought about getting the high RPM versions for the few occasions I might want to try an OC session or something, but otherwise wonder if there is any difference between the two models ramped down to 1000-1100 RPM?

Decisions decisions.

...you don't like the new Phanteks T30-120s w/1200 rpm - 2000 rpm - 3000 rpm triple mode ? Test reviews are very positive, but there's of course the price. And the BQ SW3s are also very decent, depending what you have in mind re. rads.

Per below, the 3000  rpm GT AP29s (right stack in top pic) are the overall general performance leaders in my setups, and for the cfm and rpm, they are actually 'acceptable' re. sound unlike some of the more modern stuff. The thicker Sunon 5K rpm server fans (center and back, top pic) push the most cfm, but you most likely want to do this within 20 seconds: 🤫 🤫 🤫

The InWin (~1200 rpm fans, at top left) and the ThermalTake AIO fans (bottom left) were the most surprising to me, with the best cost-benefit ratio - I still use both sets even though they are over ten years old. AFAIK, they're still available. For me though, the Arctic P12 PWM PST in push/pull are performing so well that I don't have to go fan shopping for a while anyhow. Finally, as discussed in earlier posts, fan choice is also influenced by the fpi and thickness of the rads you're getting. Whatever you end up getting, I look forward to your build pics !

The 30mm vs 25mm height of the T30's rules them out for me. I'm not sure I'll have the clearance on the thick rad mounted up top with those.

I have a bunch of old Gentle Typhoon AP-15's from like 12 years ago in a box somewhere. Problem I had with them were that they didn't always undervolt gracefully without some weird noises.

Yeah, 30mm height can be an issue (the aforementioned Sunon 5K rpm are 30 mm), even if one has the space as they need special screws.

Question: are you using the dc or pwm controlled version? If the pwm controlled version, are you running them off any AquaComputer contollers/active splitty9s?

Only asking because all my SW3s are pwm, and hooked up via a mix of AquaComputer controllers which mitigate certain issues associated with the pwm SW3s. Notably the pwm pulse amplitude needed to run the pwm versions properly (ref., adv. reading: pwm pullup & pulldown resistance). BeQuiet didn't follow the pwm spec when it designed the pwm versions of their fans and built mitigating circuitry into the fan controllers in their cases instead.

The dc voltage controlled versions don't experience the iissue of course.

All 4-pin PWM. Most running off of AC Octo's. I can't say that I have ever noticed an issue, nor that I should have been looking for one. I'll keep an eye out for it.

If you're running them off Octos, you should be okay.

Arctic cooling support is pretty great send me free mx4 once because mine was acting strange.

Had bad luck with their cheap fan acting like sleeve bearing and grinding when horizontal.

But just got a 80mm from them and it quiet and push ton of air being running horizontal for like a month 24/7 at full blast no issue 😄

Noctua as some high performance 2k rpm 140mm and 3k rpm 120mm in Grey if am not crazy

I think I decided on the SW3's, but a little unsure on which one to get since they seem to have 4 models for each size. I am going for 120mm.

So I want to control them, so will get the PWM's. But is there any other difference between the regular and the high speeds besides what their max speed is?

does minimum RPM matter? if so just check to see if the minimum RPM is shifted or not too, sometimes higher max RPM = higher minimum RPM

It's not usually listed as a spec though so you gotta find someone who's used both 🙃

Puting in the order for SW3's now. Also need to grab some thermal paste while at it. Any big difference between MX-4 and MX-5 I should know about?

Skipping that KP-x included with the Optimus block. I don't want to repaste stuff every 6 months. Same goes for Kryonaut. This stuff was good when first applied but just doesn't last.

In my experience, MX5 is just a degree or two better than MX4, but otherwise the same - MX5 is now my 'go-to-paste', just as MX4 was since 2013 or so ! Can't go wrong for longer-term applications (I still got MX4 systems running from 8 years ago...)

I do also use Gelid GC Extreme for select applications, but only because it is and stays 'thicker' for apps when I'm not sure that either the IHS and/or cold plate are perfectly straight (my 6900XT comes to mind). FYI, I'm also a great fan of TG 50 - 10 thermal putty for specific use such as for VRAM etc

Good info, thanks.

Yeah MX-4 or NT-H1 has usually been my go-to paste, MX-4 usually more than the other. I'll give MX-5 a try.

I can testify from firsthand experience that MX-5, when fresh, is thick enough to rip a 5950X out of an AM4 socket if not properly "wiggled" when detaching a Heatkiller IV from the IHS...🤫

Wow, good to know thanks. If its thick, that makes me feel better about it's longevity. I already have some spatulas.
