Instead of a 13900K, I decided to upgrade my Z840 one more time. 

 

Picked up two brand new E5 2696 v4 processors for a total of 44 cores and 88 threads.

I have that same transducer, and Fosi amp!

 

It's a class D amplifier and I notice even when it's cranked its not very powerful. Just FYI. Still shakes my desk, but I have to have the crossover and gain on the amp turned all the way up for sound/ shaking satisfaction. So I would recommend a more powerful subwoofer amp if I had to do it again. 

 

If you still have money burning a hole in your wallet I'd recommend the AMD Phenom II 960T. 

 

This is 3.0GHz base /3.4 turbo CPU with two locked cores. With that mother board you should be able to attempt to unlock them and turn it into a hexacore.

 

Works about 50% of the time according to my research.

How would a Ph II 960T measure up to a FX8320 - 8350?

 

I just got an Asus Formula Crosshair V last night.  I'll know if it's any good when it arrives and am thinking to get an 8 core FX for it instead of any more Ph II chips

Phenom II is definitely going to be the more snappy system, by a long shot. Especially if you have low latency CL 7 1600MHz memory and especially if you overclock the CPU NB.

 

The zosma core 960Ts have a decent memory controller (CPU_NB) and will usually go to 2800MHz without effecting reliability. The better samples will do 3.0-3.1GHz.

You can overclock the FX NB but they are prone to failure above 2400Mhz, and don't respond nearly as well to clock frequency boosts when compared to the Phenom II.

 

For example, it would be almost impossible to beat this latency # with a FX chip. I would highly recommend the Phenom II over the FX. Runs much cooler as well.

I just pulled the trigger on both a fx 8350 and a Ph II 960T but the T is coming from Korea so it might be close to the end of the year before it shows up.  The 955/965's I got in China only took a couple of weeks.

The trick I found on FX was to overclock the crap out of the cpu-nb and not worry so much about core clocks.  I found that 4.7ghz with cpu-nb at 2400+mhz to be better than 5ghz core and stock cpu-nb in some cases... I found out this by accident  at first because I bought 2400mhz ram and that automatically forced the cpu-nb to go that high. I kept noticing that my gaming and many benchmarks were consistently higher than others with higher core clocks.  I made a thread about in OCN, may still not beat out a phenom II though core to core because there was some regression in IPC in FX.  It's not the best benchmark/test thread because I didn't have time to do much, mostly focused on one game, but here is the link: clicky

edit: fun fact, the cooler I used on that FX is the same one I'm using on my 5950x now...

...a Bykski water block for the RTX 4090 Gigabyte-G-OC, along with two packs of Gelid GC Extreme for the GPU die (VRAM gets thermal putty again, phases some Thermalright pads). It's funny how small the PCBs are on the 4090s once you see it w/o those giant, heavy air coolers. I really don't want to run a card that ranges from 450W to 600W on air.

...the block comes with pads and a backplate (which I will modify w/ an extra heatsink). That said, for the VRAM and parts of the VRM, I will use TG-10 thermal putty again which easily conforms to any available space. I also have a selection of various sizes of Thermalright Odyssey pads from earlier Raven builds left over (see left pic).

In all honesty, it actually would be pretty cool to see the price of used tanks come down to reasonable levels that the average citizen could afford.  I wouldn't mind using one to level some trees on my own property (when I can get property), crushing a few cars, or just taking it for a few laps.
