...oh I see, the desktop / Raven_B... Believe  it or not, some of the icons go back to Windows 2000 Professional, via Windows XP 64, Windows 7 Pro and so on 🤫

  • 3 weeks later...

...finally hooked up all the components for the TT Core P8 dual work-play system for the home office (3950X, 6900XT, Philips 40VA 4K + 5950X, 3090 Strix, LG C1 OLED). That was a complex project 🤪, what with two of everything, ie. start / reset, USB etc. Quick peek below, before final RGB clean-up and better pics...

I know how much work complex WC builds can be and yours was on crack. So, much respect and glad everything is working with no snafu's.

Thanks ! 🙂...it was a complex build and as such, there actually were some snafus along the way...

For example, the Bykski block for the 6900 XT was 'mis-advertised' re. applicability for my (3x8 pin) custom card w/ a bigger VRM, ergo 'Dremel cutter and Bosch grinder' operations on that block. Bykski had offered free exchange (others customers had the same problem) but had none in stock w/ no ETA. On the Strix 3090 and the Phanteks Glacier block, I got frustrated chasing an air bubble in the block and ended up dripping coolant between the PCB and block 😪

Alas everything worked out in the end. Temps are fantastic, and so they should be w/ Gelid OC on the GPU dies, TGP thermal putty on the VRAMs and Thermalright pads w/MX5 on the phases. Extra-large heatsink on the backs of both GPUs have a helper fan on the side(s) though downdraft from 4x InWin 120s (which I had since 2012...) at the top of the case is good at the GPU zones as well.

I will update the build-log w/ plenty of pics starting next week; here are a couple of close-ups. BTW, those LinkUp PCIe 4.0 16X risers weren't cheap, but they perform great; no loss in before-and-after 3DM tests.

I finally completed 'Raven_A', a work-play dual mobo project in a TT Core P8 case I showed bits about before. It took a long time, but it was a complex build that required a fair amount of custom fabrication.

@ENTERPRISE ...this is one of two Ravens (both dual-mobo). How do I put a single case / dual system into the rig creator ?

Thanks - I'll give rig creator a try again once Raven_B 'is ready for its closeup' as well (adding a new Phanteks TR block tomorrow)

In the meantime, so pics with the glass panels on...fyi, first full day with a GoPro Hero 10, don't quite know what the heck I'm doing yet re. lighting and focus zone quirks 🤪

Anyone got advice for making the D5 pump last as long as possible in this combo unit? I've had a new unit grind to a halt in about 3 years time, exhibiting increasing vibrations towards the end. The replacement with a used D5 also grinded to a halt within a few months.  Is this thing just prone to vibration wear-down, due to its vertical orientation and inadequate load balancing? I've securely screwed the attachment holes to the case and placed styrofoam pads below the pump.

I tend to use free-standing D5s (Swiftech, XSPC) which I rubber-mount to absorb vibration, either in/on a case or a mobile cooling table setup, like below. With something like 10x D5s in use for multiple builds over the years and some as old as 9 years, I only ever lost 1x D5...and that was my own fault for accidentally running it dry while trying to test out fan Molex cable trees (those were the days 🤪I hate Molex).

I'm not sure yet about the EKWB XTop Revo 2x D5 setup as it is only in use for about four months, but so far, so good...

...pic is just right, for a 'film noir' fan like myself 😄

...below are the individual bits I used:: Swiftech D5 / MPC 655 (w/ Molex, pwm and speed adjustment screw on the back), XSPC D5 (w/ Molex, pwm and speed adjustment screw on the back), EK XTop Revo Dual D5 (pwm, Molex) w/ housing and a stand-alone D5 housing from Bitspower (5 inlets / outlets). Not sure about the EK Revo D5 ones, but the Swiftech and XSPC D5s are interchangeable re. housings, distros etc.

The black tape strip is neoprene (w/ glue on one side) which I use to mount the pumps on and insulate re. vibrations (and thus also any kind of noise)

current version (7th iteration of the cooling system)

-two freezemod 800L/H PWM pumps

-note the baby chiller that doesnt stand a chance (but the 60 plate heat exchanger to it's left has worked out very well so far)

-approx 1000mm of radiator if placed end to end (240mm is passive)

didnt like the jellyfish look to the new D5 pump so I painted it black to match the radiators

the two freezemod pumps fit perfect behind the lower reservoir

Maybe just bad luck on the pumps.

Both of my test benches have D5s mounted vertically using the EK fan mounting bracket. One is an older EK combo unit that is basically the same as what you have, and the other has an EK top with a male-male fitting attaching the pump top to the reservoir.

I also ran a D5 with the XSPC Photon pump top/reservoir combo, for a number of years without issue.

I guess that pump top could be causing some sort of weird cavitation, but that seems pretty unlikely since I see quite a few rigs using those pump/res combos.

Nice !
FYI, we've got a snow storm and - 10 C coming up in the next few days, but I probably just stay cozy warm inside  and avoid benching...coldest thing I'll touch (hopefully) will be our fridge.

This is the best of both worlds. Im inside by the wood stove and I have lines running under the garage door so the entire computer is outside and I'm nice and warm inside the house.

The 'standard Noctua colour scheme' actually works very well here as contrast !

Absolutely absurd, and there's no kill like overkill. What will you be using it for?

...personally, I prefer industrial Velcro over duct tape...

Anyhoo, finishing up Raven_B now with a few minor mods...it is based on an earlier build, but gained a second motherboard (on the back, unlike Raven_A which has both mobos on the front). It also got an updated cooling system conflabulation....and of course, 'Cherenkov radiation blue' rgB, wherever possible 😄
