If it plays like Crysis then I definitely need to get it when it falls into my game purchase range. The Crysis franchise is my favorite and the GOAT. I do not care for open world gameplay though. I lose interest swiftly. Linear FPS titles are the only ones I find captivating and play to the end, sometimes more than once.

You may not enjoy this then, especially on the explorer mode. I feel if you do the default mode, you would end up hating it, like I would with another typical Ubisoft game with map markers and a million side quests.

I enjoy narrative linear shooters like Metro Last Light and Metro 2033. Exodus didnt work for me but it really comes down to the specific game and world. This one just clicks with me. I am also a fan of Avatar and I love the tribal / hunter vibes so that’s probably why. The story is super generic and really nothing special.

Honestly, the best moments for me have been running through the jungle and coming across the wild life. Watching a herbivore defend itself from some smaller prey… jumping in to hunt and then you hear a Thanator (cougar type beast) growl in the distance. On hard it kills you in one or two hits. Gets the blood flowing.

I thought at first that was concept art.

I’d argue that RDR2 is one of the most beautiful games out there on PC and I’ve barely played it. I recall the first mission very well, trekking through the dense snow and seeing all the events unfold.

I have other priorities on my backlog (shorter games) but I need to start a new save in RDR2 and play it all the way through…

I booted up RDR (1) on Xbox Series X a couple weeks ago. Still looks fantastic, even if it feels stiff compared to modern games. It scales up to 4K and has autoHDR. Still 30 fps but whatever, it’s fun and John Marston is one of my all time favourite characters with the way he interacts in this wacky but believable world.

My favourite moments were the hunting. Going out there and hunting and skinning prey with a bowie knife. Love it. There is also that completely absurd side quest where you meet a sasquatch and it guilt trips the crap out of you, making you feel like the monster. I felt terrible knowing I made his kind extinct. I don’t ever recall a game making me feel that way about a fictional creature.

Gosh, I love that game and I can play it over and over again. Sorry for derail, just RDR brings back so many good memories.

Someone keeps submitting RDR2 screenshots to an Oregon news channel for their Out & About segment and it keeps getting shown as real photos.

How's the game?

It's pretty good. It's a little unstable though.

They have completely changed how it works compared to CS1. There are a lot of improvements, but also a lot of downgrades. It depends what you want from a city builder.

CS1 is more of a city simulator game where you have to micromanage a bunch of things.

CS2 is more of a city designer game. There's not much micromanagy things to do and it's pretty difficult to fail at it. Once you get to the Big Town (level 8), it pretty much becomes a sandbox game.

One of my cities got to Metropolis (level 15), I set taxes for all zones to 1% except offices with offices set to 2% and I was still making way more money than I could spend.

Looks really fun and more my lane (city design). I’ve listened to a few podcasts that mention Cities Skylines 2 has the foundation to be the best city game and the true sequel to sim city 4.

I never really touched Cities Skylines (1) and while I still found some enjoyment in Sim City (2013) that game’s foundation was built on the completely worst principles. Always online / cloud nonsense with shallow mechanics. Still, it was fun and colourful but didn’t scratch the itch like old Sim City games.

Sim City 2000 / 3000 were some of my favourite management games back in the day on PC.

...upgraded CP 2077 to Ultimate / Phantom Liberty...unbelievable graphics and the RTX 4090 has plenty of headroom even on 4K Ultra with path tracing and ray reconstruction, DLSS 'Quality'/FrameGen/NVReflex...

...that said, there's a 6900XT in the same dual-mobo/single case build I put together. The AMD AFMF driver allows for all kinds of trickery, such as combining the NV RTX 4090 and AMD 6900XT. The author of the vid below has done several games with this RTX/XT AFMF combo

Super excited for this game. A free demo just dropped a moment ago. Seems to be a bit heavy on the GPU considering the visuals but pulling ~100fps at 1440 / ultra.  I believe the goal is just to survive and it's main loop is similar a roguelike. The devs are calling it a "road-like" :P. I assume you'll likely need to complete multiple runs to survive or unlock the final ending, and your car, a station wagon, is the main character that you upgrade. We'll see how that plays out but what I like is how every component requires input. Fom opening the door, turning the key, sliding the shifter out of park etc. Could be really fun or get tedious quickly. I made a quick video (12mns long) and linked it below. It may be still rendering at the time of posting.

Spoiler

Rolled credits after approx. 60hrs of clocked game time. Last 4-5 main missions are pretty fun, even if some of the unique mega bases still use a lot of familiar assets. Some large changes to the world start to occur towards late game which was fun. A lot of doom gloom, lets make you feel bad type moments with Navi and wildlife getting pillaged. I feel beyond a core selection of side quests (5-10), most are repetitive Ubisoft point A to point B and you should avoid. A bit of a shame because the world is really fun to explore but quest design got lazy. Unless you can enjoy jumping in trees, flying across valleys, and stalking prey in the wild, the world might feel pretty bland. Hard game to recommend if you really not into Avatar. I also felt there wasn't enough unique encounters (besides fauna / wildlife). There are also just a few too many bases to clear out for me to consider "100%ing" the game. A fun note is that you unlock another bow type weapon towards the final 3rd of the game. All three bows are fun to use in combat and have strength / weaknesses.

I'd think I would land at an 8 out of 10. Great game but bogged down by typical Ubisoft tropes.  Curious what the DLC brings but overall, I'm glad I played it. This is coming from someone who hates Far Cry games. No more Avatar spam from me anymore 🙂 On to Alan Wake II and other games.

Sim City 3000

image.thumb.jpeg.0f14402955658a05c51f2105d967b74e.jpeg

I was intrigued by Andrew's post (Cities Skylines II) and decided to purchase Sim City 3000 on GOG. There is a simple mod for the .exe to get it to run on modern resolutions. Booted up the Berlin default map just to quickly get a feel for it. Brings backs the memories... 😛 Highly recommend this one if you love city sims. I'd argue it's the best one https://www.gog.com/en/game/simcity_3000

Say what you like about them but TechLand does give some value for your money. This game just celebrated it's 9 year anniversary and has a sequel that's 2 years old but they still have events for the community to participate in and get items from. Picture from Dying Light 1 surrounded by dead zombies I kicked to death in the latest event. Other shot is the event notification on steam. 🙂 Edit: Wife doesn't like second game as much as first,I haven't purchased it because it has more parkour and that's not my thing. 😉  (more killing, less gymnastics for me)
