  1. Whenever I post a video post and use the "external URL" field, the video will not play. Works if I post it in the text field. Seem like the issue might not be the same for everyone.
  2. Aside from the issues that would come from lack of internet access, it seems like a good thing to me to have a company be able to control their own distribution. I'm not sure what benefits come from having to pay a middle man. I mean, look at the gaming industry. Companies like Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are definitely among the highest quality content providers.
  3. Seems unlikely since it will be a new socket. I'm excited to see what amd can deliver.

  5. Yes, we all know Youtube is owned by google, that's why I didn't list them both. BlackRock is an investment group. Netflix is not owned by any other company, but like all publicly traded companies they have investment groups as shareholders. BlackRock only owns ~28 million in Netflix shares which is about 6.5% of the company. Certainly not a controlling stake by any means. You say it's not good news for creative people, but is that really true? I doubt it. people have a lot more platforms and options to control their own creative process and find a way to distribute it now than ever before, and there is more competition among media outlets. I think you have to separate talking about the media when talking about things like Netflix and Disney from conversations about the news because they're separate issues. IMO the main thing wrong with the news is that it's all geared towards maximizing clicks instead of reporting on news worthy information so instead of informing people about important topics, we all get gas-lit by headlines constantly. That definitely has nothing to do with Stuff like Netflix or Disney or other entertainment media. With that said, there is still plenty of diversity in terms of actual news sources, but they all have to play by the same crappy rules of the game which simply isn't a diversity issue.
  6. I looked it up and I found a good list with relevant info on this: The World's Top Media Companies WWW.INVESTOPEDIA.COM Here are the top global media companies and how they got to this status. Some of the main points:
  7. I think you have to add Netflix, Amazon, and Apple to that list at the very least. There were only a few companies in the past so that seems like more to me. Maybe not a lot more, but more. Then minus one because CBS and Viacom are the same company now. I don't really agree with that list though because it ignores things like Spotify, YouTube, and a bunch of less popular but still relevant streaming services.
  8. India tells VPN, cloud, and crypto companies to collect user data or face imprisonment WWW.TECHSPOT.COM As reported by Entracker, the new national directive from India's Computer Emergency Response Team, known as... Kinda defeats the purpose of a VPN...
  9. I think the hardware will be decent, but not great in the first gen... but mostly I think Intel is going to have to accept that there will be long term growing pains from getting driver support and game optimization for a totally new player in the GPU market. I suspect they may have expected game devs to be more enthusiastic about optimizing for their new hardware but that isn't going the way they had hoped.
  10. Really looking forward to seeing more about this. I hope the rumors are true just to see Nvidia sweat for a while, they're overdue.
  11. I was thinking about this a bit more and I'm not sure there are actually fewer large media companies today compared to a time before streaming took off. How many media companies were there before streaming? I think it was probably a lot less since people were limited to cable providers of which there are few and really you get the same content with all of them. After that, we had Netflix and Hulu as the only real streaming services competing with cable, but for a long time Comcast was a major share holder of Hulu anyway so it was less so competition for them, but rather expansion and adapting to technology. If Disney hadn't bought Lucas Films and Marvel then they probably could not have launched Disney+ and there would be one less option among large media companies/distributors. I think for a long time people were happy with just having Netflix and Hulu if they ditched cable but now it feels like people have to subscribe to more of these services to get the content they want. Does that mean people are being charged more for the same amount of content overall or are there just more options with more content overall? Maybe a bit of both. While it does feel annoying to have to pay for more streaming services, I think it's hard to argue that there are fewer large media companies today than there were in the past. In a sense there may be too many now. We read about mergers but we don't hear really consider the flip side of how other companies have grown over time to compete with companies that used to dominate the media landscape. Mergers often are part of those companies growing to be large enough to compete with the other dominating market forces.
  12. Would probably help if we knew more about what you already have and what you might need or want. What do you do in this office?
  13. Uploaded a couple gameplay videos of the Wildlands First Person mod.
  14. Well, to be fair, there seems to be plenty of big media companies so no need to worry about a monopoly right now.
  15. Without picking a side, I just want to point out; I think a lot of these companies wanted to be bought.
  16.   This kind of stuff is way beyond me, but very interesting. It's crazy to think the coding tools today can enable one guy to do so much optimization on a first party N64 game. Crazy to realize how much Nintendo was missing back then.
  17. Well, if you're anything like me when it comes to what you expect from a ST show, go into season 2 with very low expectations. But with that said I really didn't like season 1 much, especially how it ended. Data has basically been trapped in a virtual jail cell all this time and then his only role is to ask Picard to end his suffering? I mean, I'm impressed that they made Data's death somehow worse than it was in Nemesis. I hadn't heard that season 3 will be bringing more TNG characters back but apparently it's going to be the last season. 3 seasons for such a big name show is definitely a sign of failure IMO. IMDB is flooded with fake reviews for Picard so the score is totally inaccurate. The fake reviews really stand out to because they never mention anything specific about the show, but if you look at the reviews for the most recent episode you can see that people are not happy. "Star Trek: Picard" Hide and Seek (TV Episode 2022) - IMDb WWW.IMDB.COM "Star Trek: Picard" Hide and Seek (TV Episode 2022) on IMDb: Movies, TV, Celebs, and more...
  18. Sure but if you're a writer for a new ST show featuring Picard, probably would have been a good idea to rewatch TNG. But continuity errors aside, it's just not Star Trek. It's generic sifi with a trek theme but very little about the way the characters act and what they do seems like the way people would behave in any trek shows before the new ones. I wouldn't mind the shift in format if the plot were more interesting, but at least 3 of the episodes in season 2 so far could basically be skipped because nothing happens. The overall plot for season 2 so far feels like it might have worked for a 2 part episode but it's stretched very thin over the a whole season. Visting Picards childhood issues with his parents was not what I expected from a trek show... And on that note, why would Picard's mom just be left unattended while she has major mental episodes in Star Trek? I mean, they have advanced medical technology that could heal her in minutes but instead they don't treat her and leave her in a dangerous situation all while lying to Picard about it. None of it feels right or logical.
  19. Haha, or maybe the writers never watched TNG.
  20. Hmm well I'm happy for you then. It's fun to see familiar characters returning but beyond that, nothing about it feels like TNG to me, and what they went with instead was a lot worse. Also, in TNG it's established that Picards mom lived to old age.
  21. It's a Paramount owned franchise. Before, the rights to ST were broken up between CBS and Paramount but CBS and Paramount merged so now Paramount owns everything.
  22. I've been watching it... not enjoying it, just watching it. Before I get deep into a rant, is anyone else here watching Picard? It's surprisingly bad, almost impressive how much they've managed to derail the ST formula and replace it with something that's not even on par with average generic sifi.
  23. I played Wildlands coop my first playthrough. It was a lot of fun, but it wasn't until I played it solo (with AI teammates turned off) on the hardest difficulty that it started to feel like I really needed to be tactical, which made the game a lot more fun. I eventually beat it like that and now I'm playing it again with all the hud (except the parts you need to know what you have equipped) and spotting turned off. I was about half-way through that when the first person mod came out so now I'm playing in first person as well. It can be very challenging, but that's what makes it rewarding. The AI is a lot better in this game than you can realize when spotting and third person are enabled. I always felt like the AI was way too blind and bad at finding the player before I played in first person because it's hard to gauge when they should be seeing you in third person but in first person it all lines up correctly and feels hard, but fair. Just an example of how much more tactical it feels, in my first playthrough I don't think I ever used flash bangs. In my current playthrough they are incredibly useful. Same with flares. Thermal is WAY more useful. In my first play through this game felt like Far Cry(easy action, run and gun), now it feels like an open world Splinter Cell game. The first person mod isn't perfect, like the camera height in cars is often too low which will make you want to drive cars with big windshields but other than that it works really well. If you have any desire to play the game again, I suggest playing on max difficulty with the AI teammates turned off, in first person, with as much of the hud disabled as you can get away with. Just know it will be challenging. Play slow and stealthy.
