  1. Lorn (musician) - Wikipedia EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG Purely about that deep melancholy bass:
  2. Your Graphics Card Can Be Used to Track Your Movements on the Web, Researchers Find GIZMODO.COM A research team has discovered that a GPU can be fingerprinted, thus transforming it into a web tracker that can monitor computer users. Not great news.
  3. That would be a different tech. There is tech being developed to burn nuclear waste in a clean way that can be done on small and large scales. If that ever works out, that would be a great fit for mobile applications like vehicles. The tech here in the OP would be for powering cities.
  4. From what I've read it sounds like the deal Bungie is agreeing to will allow them to continue to release games on multiple platforms and maintain a high level of autonomy, with Sony coming in as a parent company. Bungie doesn't really have a lot of IP these days so I doubt Sony was looking at this deal as a good way to lock down any specific games but rather just a way to acquire manpower more so than anything else, as well as grab an IP that has a consistent cash flow. I suspect Bungie is working on a new Destiny like MMO game and they will want it to be multiplatform to maintain the cash stream. I'll admit there is definitely some cause for concern that some titles may end up being exclusive in the long run that otherwise wouldn't have been, but I'm optimistic that the overall benefit from these mergers will be higher quality games from both Microsoft and Sony. Just going to have to wait and see what happens.
  5. https://www.techspot.com/news/93200-sony-answers-microsoft-acquisition-activision-blizzard-purchasing-bungie.html Kinda funny, bold move to go after the company that put their competition on the map.
  6. I just started playng Dyson sphere program with a few friends using a multi-player mod. Super fun game that is really easy to get sucked into.
  7. Ubisoft Executive Says Users 'Don't Get It' In Extraordinary NFT Interview KOTAKU.COM 'So, it's really, for them. It's really beneficial. But they don't get it for now' As a gamer I don't get it. I don't get how a company can manage to make so many mistakes and still be in business. With this news, I'm really starting to wish they simply go bankrupt.
  8. Researchers achieve milestone on path toward nuclear fusion energy WWW.REUTERS.COM U.S. government scientists said on Wednesday they have taken an important step in the long trek toward making nuclear fusion - the very process that powers stars - a viable energy source for humankind. This is a major breakthrough. Essentially this would be the ignition device for some future nuclear energy source. The ignition needs to produce more energy than it uses and that has been a difficult task for scientists to achieve.
  9. No screenshots, no details at all really. Just an impending sense that our hardware will be shamed.
  10. Honestly still surprised they even tried to buy arm with how big of an issue that would be. Good news for sure.
  11. Yes pretty crazy. Looks like some people are trying to buy the dip now. Personally I don't think this is the bottom just yet.
  12. Stocks are down because the government announced plans to raise interest rates. Nothing to do with this news. https://www.thestreet.com/.amp/investing/rising-interest-rates-hurting-stocks-risk-assets As for crypto, it had already dropped some before this news but it started dropping way more as soon as this news came out. Maybe it's not a direct cause and the timing is pure coincidence however I'd say they're more than likely related. Not saying crypto and the markets don't move together these days but right now there is even more going on than just that. Bad news across the board.
  13. I've got nothing against Linux. I don't think it's realistic to think an open source OS would ever become the OS of choice for your average PC user because that's not the user base Linux aims for anyway, and for many other reasons. I don't have a dog in the API race, but I don't think devs have to pay to use directX either... That would be news to me. I suppose one reason they might choose to use DX would be since they probably already use it for Xbox so it's just less work to stick with it for PC. I'd imagine there are some trade offs between different APIs and I don't see a problem with it not being open source. I don't think Microsoft is buying devs to keep games off Linux. PC is an open platform so they don't get anything from PC game sales anyway unless you buy them from Microsoft and for a long time they didn't seem to care about that at all. I think Microsoft is probably a lot more worried about Android in terms of a Windows competitor. Windows is a small part of Microsoft's overall business now. If Linux did take off someday, Microsoft would probably just go with the flow and release game pass for Linux.
  14. I don't mean you specifically, but there are a lot of PC gamers who seem to just hate game pass for any and all reasons they can come up with. Your attitude about it is synonymous with a lot of other stuff I've read online. I'm not gaslighting... that's not what gaslighting means. I'm just maintaining my position and it's hard not to roll my eyes at what I see as over the top and unjustified skepticism. I see game pass as simply an option that's a really good deal, from my perspective it's hard to relate to anyone who is unhappy about it. I don't see it as a threat, just a good deal.
  15. Good thing you have plenty of retro systems to keep you entertained until the gaming industry gets more inline with your preferences. Until then I'll be enjoying having a huge library of games for less than a pack of cigarettes, on top of all the games I might choose to buy. More than anything the reception game pass gets from some PC gamers is proof that PC gamers are extremely eletist and anal sometimes.
  16. Open standards are great but video games are an entertainment business with huge dev costs. There are positives and negatives to this kind of ramped up competition but as PC gamers we get the best of both worlds. I'd also argue that we can expect higher quality games, but there is no denying some console gamers might miss out of a few games in the process. Even if you are a staunch Linux gamer, there's more games available now than ever.
  17. Imagine if facebook had bought activision instead... Activision pursued a Facebook buyout before selling to Microsoft, report claims WWW.MSN.COM The publisher reportedly spoke to at least one other company as well
  18. I agree people who own Playstation already are potentially going to miss out on a few titles. That's the negative. There are also positive aspects to heightened competition as I've stated. Vendor lock ins absolutely have their benefits and it's completely short sided to ignore that. The reason Sony is on top in this race is because of their exclusive first party content. Being first party, their content is very high quality and it makes perfect sense that Microsoft would want to try to do the same. Yes it's always a bummer when games are not multi-platform but it's also not unusual at all in this industry. Sony has done the same, like when it acquired Naughty Dog for example. And let's not ignore that if Activision wasn't struggling and in need of new management Microsoft probably would not have done this.
  19. Russia Plans To Ban Crypto Mining FINANCE.YAHOO.COM Russia believes that cryptocurrencies may hurt its financial stability. Crypto fell a lot lately, this is why. I expect this to happen in more and more places over time. Crypto seems to do more harm than good, especially in an era the energy/resources used for mining is so problematic.
  20. The potential for Sony to lose out on a few games is the downside, but there are arguable upsides as well like stronger incentive for both companies to produce high quality content to stand out from the competition. Won't be long now before Sony had their own subscription offer and arguable that's a result of competition from Microsoft. Acquisitions in the tech world are nothing new, they're not even rare to gaming specifically. The only real difference between this and other acquisitions is that Microsoft is a bigger company making big acquisitions, but they are still well behind Sony in the gaming world.
  21. I didn't say office 2021 and office 365 are the same and I'm not arguing that, but there is nothing missing from Office 2021 that would typically be in older non subscription models of Office. The only real difference that people might actually care about is office 365 comes with more OneDrive storage which is the one thing that makes sense as a subscription. Realistically the differences between the two are meaningless. Also, the screenshots I included show that you can purchase whichever version of office you want. If you wanted Outlook included but don't want to spend a ton you would want the "home and business" version. Microsoft has never said it intends to release games that have features only available to the subscription model. Feel free to include a source if you think I'm wrong about that. If anything, they have done the opposite by releasing all their games on Steam.
  22. I've never argued that sub models won't become the standard, only that to date Microsoft has not eliminated any non sub options for purchasing software and they have not stated any plans to do so.
  23. This is just wrong. You absolutely can buy office 2021 in whatever of the three versions you want. I'm not sure how differences in COD games have any relevance here. Arguably the issues you might have with Activision could go away now that they're under new management. As for OneDrive, since typically that would not be a part of a non-subscription based version of office, I don't think it counts as something that's been lost. Any Office files would save to the default documents folder in Windows would be backed up by OneDrive by default with or without Office, so I'm not sure what difference it makes. OneDrive is free and you can back up Office files with it just by saving them to the documents folder. Additionally, Microsoft has made efforts to move away from Outlook. I'm actually surprised to learn they still support it with new versions at all. Their distancing themselves from Outlook, if that's what they're doing, has nothing to do with Subscriptions. Yet on that note, I'm pretty sure Outlook was not usually a part of the cheaper home/student versions of Office though I could be wrong.
