  1. maybe SetFSB? Used it to corrupt the OS in my mom's PC when I was a wee-lad I just wanted to play Morrowind
  2. Steam kinda got shafted with only a day early though. RIP slow internet folks.
  3. https://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=105 ?
  4. Do the 4090s + XOC BIOSes have the same VRAM/DP issues as the 3080/3090s? I could tolerate switching to HDMI but I don't want to deal with my VRAM running at max clocks 24/7
  5. I let my drives spin 24/7 just because I don't like the few seconds extra it takes to access a network share when the drives are spun down
  6. what about coffee liqueur I stopped taking caffeine for ~year and when I started again I sorta lost the taste for coffee. All my caffeine nowadays comes in pill form or the occasional energy drink
  7. with how vcache acts as an insulator and how high Intel's TDP is I'd assume it won't/can't happen until either a die shrink or a more efficient architecture. they could always just bring back L4 like they did in the Broadwell/Haswell SKUs. It's not as fast as having the cache as part of the die but there's no issues with heat/overclocking, and the difference in capacity could make up for the speed difference. the 5775C is almost 10 years old and its L4 is almost the same size as the vcache on the 7950X (128 MB vs 144 MB). surely they could stuff in more nowadays.
  8. doesn't mention that it'd be a permanent withdrawal from the high end ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ RX 480 was AMD's highest end GPU for over a year and it still sold well even though NVIDIA had the 1080. if they released a ≤$200 GPU (without kneecapping it ala 6500 XT ) and it "only" matched NVIDIA's 60/70 series it'd still sell well
  9. if you put lemonade in it then it's Homer Simpson
  10. am doing I'd sell my soul @iamjancofor a 16:9 OLED at something between 4K and 1440p (3200x1800?) though. native 4K is pretty but it just makes me feel poor for trying to run it native at high refresh rates
  11. Revo Uninstaller, it removes stuff that the built in uninstaller and Windows' "Add & Remove Programs" misses. ooooooooor spend some time to figure out how to streamline your reinstalls and do a reinstall I can wipe my drive and be back to a clean OS with all my tweaks and programs in 30-40 minutes. a couple of batch/registry files + Chocolatey/winget + moving the Documents folder to another drive/partition = ezpz.
  12. t-minus 28 days, 23 hours, 12 minutes, and 26 seconds
  13. have you already tried PCPartPicker? you aren't able to set a CPU cooler height requirement on the case page, but if you add your CPU cooler to your parts list and then go back to cases and enable the compatibility filter then it'll filter out cases that won't fit your cooler. Just a moment... PCPARTPICKER.COM or you could buy a new CPU cooler
  14. Fractal Design Node 804 is still the goat for a small NAS case. it only officially supports 6 3.5s but you can squeeze in 8+ with some ingenuity and/or a 3D printer mATX though
  15. have you used the BT or just using it wired?
  16. any chance on moving away from TrueNAS and moving to a "true" Hypervisor like ESXi or Proxmox? Then you might want to look for a board with good IOMMU groups. Doesn't really matter for TrueNAS + a few simple containers but if you want to virtualize all the things then it will. I tried moving my server to Proxmox but my board puts everything useful in one group consumer boards are all over the place and price doesn't really effect how good/bad the groups are (there are ~$120 boards with better groups than >$200) so it might be worth considering at least
  17. we don't know the specifics on RUs but the article makes it sound like the only reason they removed it was to avoid a delay: my tin foil hat theory: "ditch the technology not to delay" = "coming later when more opportunistic" boring theory: "we tried but it's impossible"
  18. the kind of price where QLC starts to make sense MKNSSDHC16TB is TLC but it costs (about) the same and is only 16 TB @iamjanco pls
  19. I saw the video a few days ago. My tin foil hat theory is that the gains with HT disabled are high enough so that they can remove it and still have the performance crown. Then they'll just add it back a generation or two later when AMD responds with something that dethrones it. Unless it's unable to use HT because of some architecture difference, at least. I don't understand why they'd remove it otherwise.
  20. overkill for what? what specifically are you going to use it for? if's 95% NAS and you're only going to have Portainer or a few VMs then it's likely fine.
  21. ayo ding dongers I need a wireless keyboard for my laptop when I'm out of the house. currently have a cheap Dieyra 60% but no matter how much I use it I can't get used to the half-size right shift. I'm looking for either: a) a TKL to replace my main keyboard that also has wireless (so I can just bring that) b) a budget-ish 60% (<$100) for a: I was looking at the Keychron K8 Pro (no 2.4, and some people say the BT is awful?) for b: RK Royal Kludge RK61 Plus (is 2.4 and BT, but going by reviews QC is a bit of a dud) anything else I should look at? only real requirements are TKL or smaller, full size right shift, and hot-swappable. thank
