  1. don't tease me I could do the Intel/AMD IGP ones but @Fluxmaven and @damric already have those with better hardware.
  2. I know it was a joke (I think) but don't buy them in 2023. Lepy LP-2020A, Dayton Audio B452, Monoprice 108248. ~$10 more, upgradable, and better sounding. I ran a vaguely similar setup when my ProMedias died Sabaj A4 + Mica RB42. $200. if you find the boom boom lacking, then slap in a sub. ezpz they're largely meaningless. unless every audio manufacturer agreed on a standard testing methodology, they're (at best) only comparable within the same brand. look for user reviews on Audio Science Review. They've got plane jane boring measurements and their numbers are infinitely more useful than the manufacturer's specs.
  3. Is your onboard audio really that bad? Why not keep your Objective 2 for headphones and run your speakers off onboard? If it doesn't sound good enough you could always swap the DAC later for something that can do both, but I've been running a Hel for headphones and onboard for speakers for a while and haven't felt the need.
  4. not really the board makers fault, no? if you want >1 PCIe 5.0 NVME slot, then you'd be stuck running your GPU at x8 and you'd need PLX to split x8 into x4/x4 (along with it disabling your 2nd x16 slot). could be looking at this wrong but I assume that's the case:
  5. think I lied and @Sir Beregond was right. I think 14th gen mobile is Meteor Lake and 14th gen desktop is going to be Raptor Lake-S? then it might still be on LGA 1700. in either case I'm waiting for Meteor Lake before I upgrade, boo refreshes.
  6. I installed that 4GB FNV Patch (and a microstutter fix) and it's been problem free so far. but I'm only an ~hour in so who knows that's what everyone told me about FO4 and FO4 is snoozeville
  7. friend of mine said I needed to play it and it was on sale for <$10 tried FO4 and wasn't a fan so not expecting much
  8. anti-Gigabyte gang +1 for EVGA. EVGA Z790 Classified has onboard 10 GbE, and it's only ~$50 more than the Aorus Master (at least in the US). and the best part is that it isn't Gigabyte it's the board I was considering before I decided to wait for Intel 14000/AMD 8000
  9. it's not really that cynical. Dynamic boost is set through the "NVIDIA Platform Controller and Framework" driver component and the laptop manufacturer has to set it since they know the laptop's thermal/power design. No idea why you can't download a separate "GPU Dynamic Boost" driver but I wouldn't be surprised if NVIDIA doesn't allow it.
  10. pro pook laptop tip: reinstall GPU drivers from the laptop manufacturer or you'll lose dynamic boost (25W on >4060). I didn't know about DB when I wiped W11 for W10 LTSC and I lost 10W on my 3050 Ti. Acer's GPU driver is from 10/22 so I have to install their driver and update via GFE so that I can keep my GPU at 55W vs 45W
  11. took a long drive to trigger a regen and it managed to start/finish without any issues. still plan on deleting eventually though
  12. car got a new DPF, going to pick it up tomorrow. hopefully it's all better. been kicking around the idea of grabbing a 2nd vehicle and I miss having a truck. it's a bit out of my price range for a 2nd beater but I found this one. low mileage for an 04 and regular cab/short bed trucks are 2004 Ford F-150 1-OWNER XL 77K REG CAB SHORT BED 4WD HERITAGE TRUCK WWW.EBAY.COM Find many great new & used options and get the best deals for 2004 Ford F-150 1-OWNER XL 77K REG CAB SHORT BED 4WD HERITAGE TRUCK at the best online prices at eBay! 13. kind of unfair to fight a space ghost in their natural habitat
  14. unless it's going to sit on a desk 24/7 I'd go for smaller, 18" is big chungus. Lenovo Legion Pro 7 16IRX8H is the same spec (13900HX + 4090 175W + 240hz 16:10 panel) but 16" instead. Has less storage but it's cheaper.
  15. You wouldn't need a crossover cable in either situation unless the hardware is ancient. If you're using a ≥1 GbE NIC then it's safe to assume that you can just use a normal ethernet cable. I ran direct attached on my NAS up until I got a 10 GbE switch and I used the same cable from PC -> PC as PC -> switch. Is crossover cable still needed? SERVERFAULT.COM Do I still need a crossover cable to connect two PC's directly? (NIC <-> NIC)? If not, then why was this needed in the past, and when was it used for this? Specifically, when did crossover cab... Medium-dependent interface - Wikipedia EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG
  16. you shouldn't need a crossover cable so long as your NIC supports mdix (aka, any NIC made in the past ~15 years). assuming it's a Windows machine you should just have to enable sharing in Network Connections on the NIC. Right click -> Properties -> Sharing:
