  1. I may go for a 6 Core 12 Thread CPU, not 100% decided yet. Finances/donations will be the biggest factors here The next supported CPU on this board which is the 6 Core 12 Thread is the Coffeelake i7-8086K or next up from that is the Coffeelake i7-8700. The hyper threaded variants are almost double the price, While I agree will offer a better performance, have to be careful on cost to make it viable. Ultimately speaking it makes sense to go for an 8 Core as technically I can fit 7 GPU's in this machine for folding, and with having to dedicate a core to each Nvidia GPU to get best performance then technically an 8 Core would see us through comfortably. I will have to see how many is + any donations given as this will decide what we end up getting. Lol my net could not handle hosting a website
  2. Sounds like another PC in the world that needed some random piece of hardware pulled and put back in for it to wake up and smell the coffee lol. Oh ICS can be a PITA sometimes for no real reason. Most of the time I have used it, it has worked just fine. Other times...just no lol. Glad you got it sorted and you have your new cable coming soon.
  3. Thanks to @Bastiaan_NL for getting us that bit closer to getting the components we need with a generous donation of £83.12 :thumbs_thumbup:
  4. Nice, so you got the rig sorted then ? What was the problem ?
  5. Well it is best to build the core platform with longevity in mind. Ultimately the only thing you want to be changing out now and again are the GPU's when they get to the point of poor efficiency. Thanks for the headsup on the donate link as well, this is now fixed
  6. I have to say I was impressed when I saw this motherboard over the one I was looking at originally which was based on the B250 chipset. Aside from offering various features, it allows us to consider a higher core count CPU which would be needed in order to cater for all the Nvidia GPU's as you need to reserve a core for each GPU in order for you to get the best performance.
  7. As per Mr Supercrumpet, this will be housing our Community Folding Project Take a look at the link, exciting stuff ! We I am anyway haha
  8. Yeah, will re-look into Linux folding to see how easy it is to setup again. On another note....... Thanks to @axipher for pitching in and donating $75 to the cause ! This will go towards one of the integral components for the CFP !
  9. Looking at the motherboard chosen, there is no M.2 slot. But granted we could go for a smaller capacity SSD, 256GB is my default go to size as it is always the "Safe" minimum size for a boot drive with apps etc. However as it will only be Windows +Updates and F@H then we can likely go smaller. Not decided yet if will go Linux route.
  10. Sounds good then guys. I just wanted to make sure that the slight bum in timing towards the end did not skew anything. We will end it at the originally planned time Thanks for chiming in.
  11. That or multiplayer using the cloud gaming services like Stadia and Geforce Now, no access to install or otherwise implement cheats/hacks. Sure you could use a game exploit from a player end, but that would be it.
  12. There a couple of bugs we are working out on the image uploader, will have an update on that soon. Also I guess this counts.....
  13. Me...work around "Other" forums. Don't make me laugh :tongues_movingtongu On a serious note though, will try to mitigate overlap where possible  Quick question. Due to the overlap with the other forum, who here would like me to extend this giveaway to the 25th ?
  14. Its all about us now dude :heyyou:, nah just kidding, do what you feel is right
  15. That would have been cool bud, instead you can give me your valuable knowledge.
  16. The age old frustration of getting a system to work....that just refuses too. I know it all too well bud.
  17. So the giveaway is coming to an end fairly soon. What a fantastic job everyone has done for Folding@Home, the fight against Covid-19 and the team. Thus far we have submitted 2881 work units ! Seems I am getting CPU and GPU work units still, so will give the final push, see if we can get to 3000
  18. I am never fond of anything that loads into Kernel level unless it has to, as far as I am concerned anti-cheat solutions...no thanks.
  19. Every night and day. My life is now a waking nightmare from which I cannot wake. :laugh_yay:
