  1. Yup! There were also some 754 boards with PCIe that shouldn't have existed, and some Socket 939 with AGP slots too. Going to Intel, they also had crossover style boards, also ASRock (they were good about those crossover boards back then). I have a Core 2 Duo supporting board that rocks an AGP slot for example.
  2. K8 (Socket 939) the IMC was on die (first AMD socket to have it). So nope, DDR400 it is. You're right, the board SHOULD have DDR2 or DDR3 given its a 785g chipset. That's why I love that board. It really "shouldn't" exist.
  3. Yeah, Walmart learned their lessons with the 2TB Western Digital Green HDD's we all used to snag out of the enclosures and return dead drives in them....... I mean, not "we", I certainly never did such a thing 20 years ago in Mexico......... The ol' switcheroo doesn't really work that much anymore tbh. Second hand, and securing an absolutely solid deal is somehow a LOT more fulfilling, and fun even.
  4. Also: ISO a large tower case with LOTS of 5.25 bays.......... One day, one day. This is more a teaser for @LabRatthan anything since I'll probably never find the case I need for this board. ASRock crossover style board, 785G chipset, but on Socket 939. 785G was an AM2+ / AM3 chipset for Phenom II's. Socket 939 was K8 (Athlon64 / Athlon64 x2's). DDR2 vs DDR1. This board literally shouldn't have existed.
  5. Huge shoutout to @LabRat, but figured this is as good a spot as any to share the pictures. My GeForce 6800 SLI set of cards is almost on its way back to me, and they're looking GORGEOUS!
  6. I was a little curious about this cooler, and it looks like for good reason. Seems Corsair did a great job at releasing a top tier air cooler with this one. Glad you enjoyed it, and yet again another fantastic read!
  7. That is such a neat case. Really great review of it too. I'm surprised how much power you were able to pack into that tiny little thing. And the layout, the layout of that case is so unique. You were right, nothing at all like most ITX cases. That looked fun to build!
  8. Can confirm as well, I had nothing but problems trying to use my bluetooth headset at my PC. Some games the audio would still go through my speakers, sometimes the voice comms would be the only thing going through the headphones, and some games, things just worked correctly. It was a mess trying to get it working correctly. It would be VERY nice if there was a wireless option that just worked right out of the box. Sorry E, I really don't have much to comment on here except avoid bluetooth "headsets" if you can. That's just from my own experience though. YMMV, as usual.
  9. I thought it ended at 4pm PST, not 4am. -_-. Wasted 12 hours of high electricity usage. Either way, was super fun! That was my first time EVER getting a top 10 spot. my 7900XTX and 7900x system for this. EDIT: AHHHHHHHHH ITS FREAKING QUIET IN HERE NOW OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've had deafening screeching reference blower fans going for a week, and now silence. AHHHHHH!!!!!!!
  10. For once, I'm not regretting a $1000 GPU purchase 2 weeks before the release of new $1000 GPU's. Yay!
  11. Figured why not, and I tried these same EXACT steps. Can also confirm - seems fixed.
  12. Oh I'm now starting to see the difference. Those aliexpress 580's only have 2048SP vs the standard 580's 2304SP's. Got it. So its a weaker RX 580, but with more VRAM. Interesting. It's basically a RX 570 with slightly higher stock clocks. Very interesting. Guess they have to do something with all the leftover Polaris dies.
  13. Bump. I'm in the prepping stages, and searching out for an editor for gameplay videos in Ultrawide resolution. Modern and old games (old games will be 16:9). Would like to try to corner that niche market since nobody makes ultrawide gaming videos. Would like to see them help EHW if possible. Let me know if that'll help at all (once I've got an editor lined up).
  14. The die? Or are you talking about the actual GPU socket that the die sits on? Not sure what you'd technically call it tbh. I also just woke up too lol. Anything 70%+ is fine, but definitely want 90%+ if you can for cleaning electronics. 70% is fine though, just takes longer to dry.
  15. 16GB RX 580's?!?!? Stahp it bro. I'm so sick and tired of RX 580's, I've had I want to say 24 of them to date. I really REALLY don't want to think about RX 580's anymore. But 16GB 580's??????????? You've piqued my interest. -_-

    AMD Drivers

Nope, not at all. You're actually given the option between installing 4 different styles of CCC control panel. Personally, I usually install the standard "Adrenaline" version of CCC. I've seen others install the Pro version though. You can literally mix and match your driver kernal and your version of CCC. They've even backported the AFMF feature back onto every driver released in 2023. (Note: AFMF only works on 6000 and 7000 series cards though) Agreed. I actually do REALLY appreciate the Adrenaline interface of CCC much moreso than Nvidia's 1998 style. And that's coming from a retro gamer. Nvidia's driver DOES have the advantage of their UI being the same across the years and releases though. I guess that's a plus.

    AMD Drivers

Okay seriously, let's talk about AMD's drivers. Yes, there's legitimate reasons why people don't like them. One CAN say the same about Nvidia's drivers too, let's be fair to both sides. I just had the weirdest problem with my 7900XTX though. When I first built the rig, it ran fantastically! I installed the latest 24.1.1 WHQL official drivers, and I started having random freezing happen. Turns out, its a Freesync bug. I turned off Freesync and the problems went away. That's why I'm here to plug the after market drivers. Radeon-ID - Browse Files at SourceForge.net SOURCEFORGE.NET Official Mirror of AMD Domestic Community Driver Indonesia Seriously, if anybody happens to have any weird bugs, glitches, or breaking problems with official AMD drivers for ANY GPU from the HD5000 series and newer GPU's (so the last decade +)......go try those drivers. They work REALLY well. That is all. Just wanted to spread the good word.
  18. Lost a few points / WU's or whatever last night. -_- I decided I'd go ahead and try a game out because I was bored on a Saturday night. Closed the folding client window. Didn't realize it was still folding. Started a game up. It kept freezing at completely random for like a full second at a time. Rebooted my machine. Tried another game out. Actually froze entire system - even audio and mic stopped working (but it came back). Realized there was something even more wrong with this new system than I thought....... DDU'd and reinstalled R.ID modded drivers on the 7900XTX. Problems are solved. -_- Started my folding client again. Never did play a damn game. -_-
  19. You shouldn't need more vcore to get 1400 core clock on a 580, and 2000 on the RAM is stock clocks. 1.20v and a 200w power limit is like 1450-1500 core clock speeds range. Assuming your card can clock that high. Both of my Asus RX 580's will do 1450c / 2050m clocks at 1.20v with a 200w modded BIOS. They're not happy there, but they'll bench there. My MSI version of the card will actually run stable at those clocks though. Depends on your cooling capabilities with the card honestly. Keep it cooler, it'll clock higher.
  20. Double post but whatever I don't care: NEXT TIME you get a GPU wet (with any wet substance) Take it FULLY apart Clean it with ALCOHOL (not soap) Let it dry FULLY for literally DAYS Put it back together with new TIM and new thermal pads (or putty) And THEN try it out Do not EVER try to turn on previously wet electronics (in general) without doing this. Or you WILL have a bad time.
  21. What are you doing using soap on a GPU??????????? Dude, I think that cards dead. Stop powering it up, like I said the other day. Take it FULLY apart. Clean it with alcohol THOROUGHLY. Let it dry for DAYS. And then put it back together and give it a go. It's PROBABLY dead at this point though. Those photos you showed earlier are not a good sign at all. That's probably dead VRAM.
  22. THIS ADVERT HAS EXPIRED!

    • WANTED
    • NEW OR USED

This WTB thread is for my EHW homies outside of the US probably. If ANYBODY can find a used RX 6300 out of a Dell or HP, please let me know. I have some very specific, scientific reasons I need one. 🙂 It's an absolute long shot since the card doesn't exist outside of OEM. But hey, figured its worth a shot. As far as pricing goes, I'd be willing to pay maybe upwards of $50 for one? I have a local buddy (Labrat here on EHW) that might also want one (I'd buy as a gift for him), so if you've got a hookup for 2, that's even better! Slightly negotiable. Let me know? TY

    1.00 USD

  23. My 6900XT is a problem child. MSI used a HDT cooler on the die, and the die on these cards REALLY wants a flat copper base. The hotspot on my card is so hot because of the little cracks between the heatpipes. I've already used thermal putty and one of those graphite sheets for TIM on it, and that didn't help it much at all. My ambient apartment temperatures, I'm TRYING to keep it below 77*F inside (so far I've been lucky). So my ambient is anywhere from 72-77*F or so. I do try to keep it below 75*F, but with all these cards folding.....well its getting hot in herre.
