Rig Creator: Have your say!

ENTERPRISE

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am in the planning stages for Rig Creator. As you may guess, this will be the feature that allows you to input your owned Rigs into the site and will also allow them to show in your signature area. I am looking for thoughts on the component fields we should have available for filling out when creating a rig. Aside from the obvious CPU, Motherboard, RAM, PSU, Case Etc, what other items would you like to show off in you created rigs ?

Thanks all,

E

Now this is a key feature for forums such as ours. Very excited to see this being implemented.

I think that the key components as you mentioned will be easy, I would like to see detailed sub specs.

CPU - 9900k

Subset

Clock speed

Voltage

Temps idle/load

Lidded?

TIM used

etc...

Cooling lacked love on OCN, would be nice to see more under cooling specs.

Air/water/Tec/LN2/Chiller

blocks

coolant

fittings

etc...

Perhaps an insert for a link to validated specs CPU-z/CPU, 3DMark/GPU. I remember people having to post what they thought was relevant in their sigs like 9900k @5.2 Link. Would be really cool if you could just insert a link to your created rig next to each component and anyone who was interested could check out your benchmarks.

Just a few things off the top of my head.

Thumbnail image that blows up to full size if you click on it. Hideaway rig stats so you just see the name unless you click on it then see all the components. At least 3 rig slots would be nice, but more would be better :)

Simple specs in the sig rig (just hardware), and when you click on them, they expand out with overclocks/voltages/misc other info rather than a redirect to another page (like what most forums seem to do)?

basically if I have "10850K" in my sig rig, you click it and it expands out with all the superfluous info - "4269 Mhz @ 4.20v, 1337x cache, blah blah blah"

Multi GPU/PSU would be nice and maybe fan size/brand/model.

I'm afraid to add all the hardware I've got for fear of inducing extreme depression in others, perhaps even forcing them over the cliff.

Actually... I've just become too lazy when it comes to filling out sig rig info, completing build logs, etc. It just doesn't do a whole lot for me lately. I much prefer to just hang out and help others when I can, as well as make others smile/laugh occasionally. I'm starting to feel like a real grandpa, both literally and figuratively. Heck, I might even be one any number of places in the world without really knowing about it.

So I have been thinking about this. I love the idea of including some OC details and possibly other details about the rigs such as fittings or other specific information.  I think this is best satisfied by an "Overclock Settings" field would be a large text field rather than limiting it to lots of fields as I think that is a little too granular. I think I would also look to create a "Rig Notes" field, this would contain specific interesting information about the rig such as parts used, fittings, blocks etc.

How about a "render target" or something like that which would be for the render resolution and frame rate people are targeting. 1080p 240hz/1440p 144hz/4k 60hz and such.

FYI, we use large text files (up to 5000 characters, complex-multilingual, searchable) in some of our online biz apps we host and find it really useful for fine-tuned multi-term searches. It works for both the 'contributor / author' and the 'browser / user'

Another thing you might want to consider are options for dual or triple mobo arrangements (in a single case etc). I'm a member at builds.gg and while I like that site, I find that it was far too restrictive re. multiple, 'competing' components - such as more than one motherboard or CPU in a single entry.

Understandable, though I have not a clue as to how you would implement that in a user friendly GUI. I hear @axipher and @zodac have a bunch of free time and could use a few more projects.

I think that can be covered via the additional details field. However will have a think on that.

Thanks for the insight. So are you suggesting that each build profile should have the ability to have multiple mobo and CPU entries ?

Yes, exactly that...just allows for more overall flexibility for non-traditional builds. If there needs to be a DB 'id' for EHW, you can link that to their first mobo / CPU listed though then add a secondary DB entry field for the other mobo and so forth

This is what we are aiming to cater for. The system will be flexible, so we should have the ability to add to it when needed so far as possible existing and new component types.

The best thing would be to allow users to add their own extra categories beyond the standard categories.   So If I wanted to list my printer or my external blu-ray, I'd hit the "Add Component" button, fill in the name "Printer", then fill in "Brother HL-L2340DW"   I think that would be better than trying to think of every possibility.

That is one idea for sure, but it can lead to a certain degree of non-uniformity and can lend itself to abuse, though that is a fairly small likelihood. Right now the ability for us to add items at our discretion seems the best option and with the system as its been designed, allows is to add new options easily.
