I'm not nearly as active as I was previously and OCN was a fantastic place to learn and share.  Your efforts spoke to the core of the forum E! It hasn't and won't be anything like it once was, thankfully you have EXHW now - which as many have stated will be a home for those of us who miss what OCN once was.  Soon as I'm settled again and setup I'll be able to contribute more. 

 

Long era, and for 19 years of service they should at LEAST do something more than just give you notice.  Hopefully something, just something.  Ever so something.

Ha, were you thinking I would get a gold Rolex or something? While I don't expect grand gestures....it literally was an email of "Your no longer required" sort of thing. However.... it's corporate...so you cant expect much heart lol.

Exciting times for EHW regardless mate.  Enjoy the next few years, I get the feeling that with your last message on OCN, the activity boost we saw with it, and the knowledge we already had going here.......this site isn't going anywhere for a long time except up.

Ha, they were tough times for sure. Stressful times, literally not good on ones health. 

 

These are super exciting times. I am really looking forward to the rest of 2023 and beyond. I know we are going to be able to make this community something to behold. An example of excellence if you will! Only way is up

I literally saw the thread on OCN myself today.

 

Can't really nurture a community with an algorithm and the occasional bot posting an inane thread in the new members area.

 

I hadn't been on OCN for a good long while until looking again recently due to thinking of upgrading.

 

It feels hollow and I miss the area at the top that would show the users logged in at the time.

I agree whole heartedly with this sentiment, I'm also a 2007 OCN'er.  For those curious (not everyone was an OG), I do believe OCN was originally started in 2004 (feel free to correct me).  I'd say anyone in that first iteration before the switch to Huddler could, in theory, be considered "OG".  I think that happened around 2011-2012 or so, ish?  Reason being, that entire time.....the USERS were what was important, both with management and staff members (myself included at the time).  After the Huddler switch, it was all about pleasing Huddler admins.

The users are what made OCN what it is.  The overclocking, modding, water cooling, TEC cooling, Phase Change, LN2, chopping up junkyard cases (who did that I forget?), custom making their own acrylic full on cases (R.I.P. Syrillian), Intel stealing nanometers, playing Crysis on a Pentium 2, etc, etc. "Enthusiasts" do a LOT for the PC communities.  And we do it because "why not".  Obviously that mentality hasn't died with OCN, but its kind of nowhere else on the internet either except for a few smaller forums with everybody all split up.

I dunno, I just think its awesome when we're all together, and have other just as crazy minds to bounce ideas off of.  Bouncing crazy ideas around is where all the fun is.

Very true! Trying to remember how I found my way there, I think its was either unlocking pipelines on a GPU or maybe just coolbits  They definitely should have kept the 2004 logo through the years though.

Hopefully that kind of community driven success can be re-created here. I suspect there's enough interest and talent to make those things happen.

It was sad to see it happen but OCN has been dying for a long time. Good to have you here and at the head. Like you, OCN helped propel me into what I do today!
