Yeah, until I get a dedicated computer room/lab/workshop space, F@H is not going to happen for me. This thing throws off enough heat in an hour gaming session. 

 

HWBot has been a lot of fun. Really teaching me about how to tweak my RAM and really helping me learn all the OCing tricks with Zen 3 and my Asus Dark Hero board. The Dynamic OC Switcher feature was particularly interesting.

Despite all of the circumstance with the downfall of OCN, I am really happy with the community that we have established here on EHW and I look forward to being able to actively participate in the forum now that I am moving to a new job which is primarily telework.  Would love to get back into F@H once my income begins flowing again, though I know my hardware is so severely outdated being matched to the old OCN TC categories.  I really need to get caught up on the happenings in here lol

I transitioned to OCN from a dying forum at a time I wanted to dive more into enthusiast personal computing. I had built my first CAD X79 rig with the help of many others and had fun doing mods. 

 

Over the years, that knowledge share helped in more ways than I can count on one hand. While the knowledge didn't always directly apply to technical skills in my career; I wasn't building water cooled rigs at work... I would like to believe the community helped support and fuel passion projects that have improved hard and soft skills.

Interesting. I found in the last few years the community actually grew to be pretty helpful and support centric. People would PM with advice and tips. I took a break from the forum for yeeeears because the mods were toxic as hell and would basically wait to jump on anything they could to punish you. Is that Vampire jackass here in this community cause that idiot pushed me away from wanting to go back to OCN for like a decade.

I absolutely DO know who you're talking about, and no he's not here as Andrew and E said earlier.  I was a senior mod over at the place that shall not be named for years, and yeah I agree with you on that complaint.  It wasn't just him (although he was the worst for it), it was also a HUGE lack of communication with the mods starting with the switch to Huddler.  When nobody is talking to each other, you end up getting those hard handed mods sneaking in.  I always operated on the whole, "treat others how you want to be treated" principle.  *shrugs

 

Welcome to all the new (to EHW) guys!  As you can probably tell, yeah its a TAD slower around here, and a lot less questions, but we're ALL here for anyone that needs help.

Unfortunately, I never really took to OCN as much as I probably should have.  In recent years, I haven't found much value and the constant talk on binned chips and raving reviews left me on the outside.

 

I was trying to think back at all of the computer forums I have been apart of since the 90s...  It's sad how some are leaving my memory, as they were some of the best connections I had.  It truly felt like a community.  I want to say I started out at 3DFiles, but then as that dissolved, moved to Hardware-Pacers and somewhere else...I know I'm forgetting a few key ones.

You're so old....I remember BigVal, but I bet most people don't because he was done right after I became manager, which was like 2010....lol.

I am sure they are talking about bitemarksandbloodstains, who was very black and white, he wasn't a bad person at all, but he was a strict guy and there was no wiggle room.
