Dark Mode

Recommended Posts

I don't see an option anywhere in settings to switch this site to a "Dark Mode" like other websites offer. I have a newer HDR high refresh rate monitor that can get up to 600-NITS and the bright whiteness of this website is kind of eye-searing. It would be nice to have some sort of Dark Mode.

there is one but it's a premium feature.

use an extension.

Chromium:

CHROME.GOOGLE.COM

Switch all websites to dark mode. You can darken all sites and also customize colors for the sites you want.

Firefox:

ADDONS.MOZILLA.ORG

Download Dark Reader for Firefox. Dark mode for every website. Take care of your eyes, use dark theme for night and daily browsing.

I just went to look here: https://extremehw.net/subscriptions/ And there is no mention in any of the premium packages of a "Dark Mode" or any alternative themes. What are you referring to with this being a premium option? Also I have tried those addons before and they don't work because there is a momentary bright flash of white when loading bright web pages like this one before the addon re-skins it black and that defeats the purpose.

So the official subscriptions page is different from what's actually in the premium packages ??? That's so confusing. Instead we have to go find a random forum thread describing it somewhere else? 😕 That's all sorts of janky. Also we have to pay money for a basic thing like dark themes that most other forum websites give us for free? I'm trying really hard to like this place over OCN but this is all kinds of BS. 😞

you don't have to "find" anything, it tells you to check the thread on the same page.

image.thumb.png.c9e028cd8e8921ff831b1c0bea044ed8.png

it's free for OGs, but even if it wasn't, it's less than $1/month ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Like Pook said above, the thread is linked on the subscriptions page.  You don't have to go searching, its right there if you want to know more about the different options.  I do see what you're saying with the subscriptions page not having full information, but the flow does make sense as is.

When I joined EHW, there was a 200MB file limit TOTAL for the whole site (actually might've been less even, I didn't pay attention).  That grew to the current 350MB limit.  Basically, all I'm saying is, when the site is going well, the membership will be treated well.  I wouldn't be surprised if free memberships looked entirely different in the future on the site (for the better).

Is there perhaps some sort of Chrome script or something one could run on their own end to force a site into a Dark mode?  Idk, just an idea.  Seems like a silly reason to not like a site.  Idk about you, but I'm here for the content. 🙂  Then again, I'm always the first one to put Windows into Dark mode too, so I know what you mean.

Also, just keep in mind its a growing site.  Things will continue getting better as the site goes on.

Hey guys.

It is hard to find as I recently edited out Dark Mode from the Premium Packages (Early Yesterday) as I am moving this out of premium and into the free domain as its been on my mind for a while to make this change. This should be completed over the coming days 🙂

Cheers,

E

I think I originally bought the bronze subscription just for the dark theme. It was cheap and I was happy to help the site out. Keep in mind that this site is still new and things are evolving fast.

Making dark mode free for those that can't, or are not ready, to help support the community financially is a good move.

I think I spend more time manually blocking advertisement elements on pages at overclock.net than I do looking at content.

If we get Dark mode free I might consider it more. 🙂

Although if there was some way to get people to commit to a group buy on computer hardware that might be something that would entice a lot of folks in here. Maybe reserve the ability to participate in the group buy to people that have at least 50-75 posts or something though. I don't know if or how you could ever organize something like that. But if you could that would be amazing.

I am not opposed to group buys and it is something that would have to be organized among members to throw in the cash for a big purchase and organize the shipping.

The issues faced is that you would need someone in a trusted position to hold the money to ensure that the person making the purchase does not just get everyone's money and run, I have seen that before and it is ugly & again, someone in a trusted position would have to receive the goods in bulk, and then ship out the items to the buyers.

In theory, it sounds easy, but it is when you get to the shipping of the items to all the buyers is where the headache comes in, at least for the person having to ship a tonne of packages.

Like I say, not opposed to it but you would just have to have the right people willing to be a part of it.
