When I went to OCN today had a pop up that surprised me, "Subscribe now for ad-free viewing" lol. Wasn't that a thing before Vertical Scope broke them and said "We can't fix that pluggin so tough titty?" I guess with the exit of some people and the start of a viable site that offers ad free viewing, they felt the need to "do the impossible" and fix things so they can try to keep up with the quality sites. 😉

It kind of was a thing before VS.

You could have paid for an Overclocked account and this is something that went back before Wikia took over. However, you were also able to get a free Overclocked account permanently once you got to 250 rep.

I don't remember what the prices used to be, but current prices are $5/month or $50/year with no option to have a permanent Overclocked account. It's absolutely not worth it, especially if you compare it to the premium account features here.

On OCN, you get:

  • No ads (doesn't matter, tech forum, pretty much everyone is blocking them anyway)
  • Access to the premium forums (no one posts in there)
  • A badge that says you have a premium account.

Here (going with Gold membership because monetarily, it's the closest), you get:

I literally have never seen an ad on anyones site in probably 7 years so this is news to me. If you have an ad you want to see if I get shown on this site, feel free to challenge me 🙂

Who is even in charge of OC.net these days? Seems like someone wants all that ad $.

Whoever is at the computer at the time in the VerticalScope office.

Yes, that is all they want. I do remember when GDPR became a thing, they had to show how many trackers there were. There were 250+. I don't remember the exact number but ti's the most I've seen on any website.

They couldn't not careless about anything else. I've made suggestions to make the forum better, things that are pretty minor and shouldn't take too long to implement. Took weeks to get a reply.

Made a post about someone threatening to sue them, got a reply within an hour.

We do not show ads on this site just yet, but will be happening to help support the site running costs 🙂

VerticalScope purchased OCN some years back, and like all there other sites, use it as a cash cow for their ads and other information stealing trackers. It is just one big money grab.

All VS does is destroy forum communities. There's no enhanced experience for them to offer when premium forums—the best offering in their upsell—are generally useless and unpopular if the forum owner hasn't defined a use for them, and they often end up being gossip circles if they get used at all. However, VS is so disliked by forum users in general that there isn't even a community remaining to prop up a premium gossip forum unless the gossip is to detail all the ways VS sucks.

A forum doesn't work when the people who run it have no idea what the hell it's even about and aren't interested in tailoring it to the community's needs. Even subreddits have more customization, which says a lot about the potential for a VS forum because most subreddits suck.

There is no reward for the admins who run a VS forum. They're not part of the community, and so it feels more like a job to them (and it literally is). But who wants to work at a job where the community you serve hates you, and you're not empowered to actually help them anyway? It's an endless circle of hatred.

VS is trying to generically monetize forums and it's going over about as well as Yahoo Answers or Quora.

First shot, OCN home page, adblocker turned off, showing 3 ads just at first section of page loaded & showing.  Second shot shows adblocker info after turning back on and refreshing page.

People still use OCN?  :lachen:

Yeah ouch, that's definitely a new thing I don't remember seeing there before.  I had an overclocked account for years and years over there, but when they took that away, I haven't been able to login since.  Oh well.

Here is my spoof take on OCN thread titles:

  • Did you see the subtle and mildly annoying change to the Windows UI?! We should burn down the Microsoft HQ!!!

  • How do I OC this dell Laptop from 2006 that I found in the trash? Also, why won't it turn on?

  • Check out my new 3000hz ultra super wide quadruple display setup that I play Train Simulator 2010 on you dirty noob peasants!

  • Selling my GeForce 2080Ti, only 20% more than MSRP because of this water block I put on it, no low-ballers.

  • Click Here for ED Pills CHEAP ONLINE~~~~~!!!!~~~~~!!!!
