The teaser is very brief and gives us a few hints at what this upcoming handheld gaming console from MSI is going to be like. The short video starts with the front of the device which shows a design resembling the ASUS ROG Ally and Steam Deck OLED. The dual triggers are lit up by RGB-LEDs which is a nice touch in terms of aesthetics.

MSI also seems to be focusing a lot on the exhaust vents which might highlight the cooling and thermal capabilities of this device. A tag reading "True Gaming" is featured and we see a lot of these dual black/red tone mesh grills on the back of the product. A large MSI "Dragon" logo can also be seen which might also come with RGB LED illumination.

Unsurprising really. Handheld PC gaming has really taken off so it makes sense for MSI to want a piece of the action.

I agree everyone following the trend and hardware is getting ways better too!

I'll admit to being a noob with handheld PC's, but isn't it mostly the software that's the big hiccup on these devices today?  What I mean is, a Steam deck is supposed to be a finalized product and they seem to work pretty well.  But the Windows devices I've heard of, all seem to have problems because of Windows.  Hopefully MSI gets permission to use SteamOS, or maybe it'll be possible to load SteamOS on them.  I'd LOVE to have a Windows capable handheld to be honest, I just don't know if Windows is ready for that (again).  Their last attempt at a mobile capable desktop OS was 8, and well, we know how that went.

The Steam Deck is powered by SteamOS, but you can install Windows on it with the proper installation media

 

The linked page provides three ways to do so--including permanently replacing the Steam OS with Win 11--but doesn't necessarily recommend making the permanent change.

break your OS if you install it wrong ... maybe? 

 

all it does it port over some (all?) of the features of the Linux "OSD" (fan/power control, button mapping, performance overlay, etc) to Windows. 

 

the only marginally dangerous thing is power control but the limits aren't removed, it should still have the same cap regardless if you're in Linux/Windows.

You can apparently still download and install SteamOS: SteamOS (steampowered.com)

 

 

These devices are just small AMD (usually) PCs with laptop CPUs and GPUs. Windows works normally on them. 

 

No idea if other manufacturers would be able to just ship SteamOS devices if they wanted to, but I don't think of it as a real selling point. Valve has refined SteamOS on the Steam Deck to an impressive degree, but it's still a long way off from Windows.
