The block was cleaned 6 months ago, but it went in a system with red fluid and has been online 24/7 since that day. I should have flushed that system like I did in the main system and use distilled water with biocides etc. Instead I was lazy and refilled it with the red dp ultra and the whole loop is red again. 
The block is clean now, and so is the CPU block and the radiator. Waiting on the pads so I can install the block on the GPU, the loop is almost ready.

Looks great, you almost fooled me, I looked at the "Dirty" block and thought, this copper block looks fine.... LOL

Thanks, it'll get the black and white sleeved cables too and a few RGB ML140's. I think a dimmed red or orange/copper light will look good with the hardware.

 

Looking back at the picture I totally understand the confusion, it was a bit hard to capture the real color on camera. The tubes are all red inside, and so is the reservoir and every fitting. 
Took me about 2 hours to clean the block with a toothbrush.

So to be fair, I'm sure this is because that person was not monitoring their coolant temps, but I came across something that gave me a bit of pause. I saw this guy's PETG tubing warp where they fit into the fittings which could cause leaking. At what temperature does the coolant need to be for that to happen? Wondering if the guy was just super negligent and hotboxing his room, or if PETG doesn't have a lot of tolerance?

 

Just wondering PETG vs Acrylic...I get PETG is easier to work with, but seeing that makes me a bit nervous about it.

You would need to have coolant temps >45c to warp PETG. 50c is usually the limit for PETG and I know the limit for most pumps.  I have had coolant temps run to 42c before when I had my fan curve on manual for whatever reason and forget about it. Nothing ever became of my loop. Was that warm for 2 hours or so I think before I noticed.

I think I sold the wrong board, this one has no RGB headers so I can't use both the blocks and the pump leds.

That's a clean-looking build, including power cable management...I like Z170s, still have a Gigabyte Z170 SOC Force in daily use powering our bedroom tv, including for some retro 1080p games such as NFS: Most Wanted...

I was not happy with the temperature spikes on my 3950x, so I decided to check the flatness and give it a good polish on a lapping stone at work.

Here is the first run with 180 grit, pretty clear that it hits the wrong area first. I kept going with 180 until there was only copper showing and stepped it up a few hundred grit at a time, finishing with 2500. 

The system has been running p95 small fft's for an hour now, not exceeding 20°C over ambient maxing out at 57°C on the full loop (420 and 280 x 45 rads, still waiting on a HK block for the 3090).

I've not seen any of the temp spikes, but I'm sure that's not fixed but only a bit lower than it used to be.

I've have an older Intel 5960X (8C/16T HEDT) which I call 'nemesis'...has the world's worst IHS (simultaneously concave and convex, w/ huge temp differences between cores). I finally got it to behave a bit better after the 4th round of serious lapping; can't lap any further or I'll need copper shims

 

...I love the Z170s...and let's face it, Intel Skylake lasted a long time (14+++++++++++++++++). The Z170 SOC Force has 3x M.2 onboard plus USB-C and a PEX chip for quad-SLI, not to mention 22 w-cooled phases and Japanese caps all over. Once Ravens' nest is finished, I might get back to the idea of modding this Z170 for a 9900 K (via socket inlay and custom bios, which does exist).

Will you need those shims to get enough pressure from the cooler on the IHS? Otherwise you could use longer springs to get more pressure, I even searched for the option of direct die cooling. But after watching someone rip a few parts from the chip I decided not to do that..

 

The weird thing with this chip is that the max temp under small fft's is 21°C over ambient, but as soon as I stop the workers it jumps 5°C up over the max temp. And now, an hour later I see a max temp of 31°C over ambient, one of those weird spikes. So in the end it didn't matter for the spikes, just the temp under load dropped a bit. Now I'm not scared at all about that max temp, its 30°C below the max but I hate to see it jump around like that. 

 

Sounds pretty epic if you could get a 9900k working on a z170, but that's not really something I would put my time into. I mean, it's really cool if you can get it to work but I don't really need it. 2 of the 3 systems only have a CPU to keep the GPU's working, and the 3950x is just because I could. Maybe I would have been better of with less cores and higher clocks, but bigger is better right?

...yeah, I took a lot off the IHS given its crazy wavery look - w-block seating pressure would be an issue (borderline now) but longer springs might work > good idea ! ?

 

...I have my own 'HoF of fav mobos' I'll keep no matter what ?

 

...apart from the Gigabyte Z170 SOC Force, there's the Asus Maximus V Extreme (3770K) that actually has Thunderbolt, an Asus X79-E WS (PEX + 7 PCIe) and the more recent MSI X399 Creation, plus some real oldies like the Abit IC7G

Here is my main rig. It's a 1080ti running the show and a 1080 folding.  Running 3 360 rads with a Thermaltake Pacifica pump/res combo. I have it in my garage so ambient Temps get high during the day. Under full load folding tems are 43 and 53. Could not ask for better with 100+ degree Temps in the garage. Garage Temps are not in C.

My First forray in watercooling. 
Had some help from my best friend. 

I originally had an X99 build but sadly when I tried to at my 3080TI in the loop, I killed the mobo. 
I was filling up the loop, it pushed up the fill power and it spilled all over. 
I dried, danced, and washed it in alcohol but still no joy. 

So I decided to change things a bit. 

 

 

1. EK-Quantum Kinetic TBE 200 D5 PWM D-RGB - Acetal

Thanks. It was the most convenient solution to get a rig assembled quickly and lose some weight *cost of mobo, cough*. 

Given that I have the hottest components on the market, I would say temperatures are more than adequate. 

This was a 7m real bench run to give you an indication. 

Apart from XMP, I did not do anything in the bios.

this was just before the start of my current 6 month coolant flush earlier today, tubing was replaced aswell as after 2 flushes it had gone cloudy.

there are days on here where I think about hiring some of you to make my crap look good.... sigh...  don't get me wrong, my water cooler works fine, nothing ever overheats....but it looks like it was beaten with the entire ugly tree and the ugly vine too...

oh that is soooo tempting... It'd be about a 7 hour drive for me...not that I'd mind visiting there, and I'd need to get a good case... this old rag has done it's duty... I realy appreciate that offer for sure. 

I haven't posted it anywhere yet, but I nearly chopped off my finger at work... it's okay, but I can't move it properly anymore and I have to see an ortho to see if they can fix the broken tendon... having to relearn how to type atm lol... but given my circumstances, I'd best stay close by home for now, just in case they call me in.... I'd share a pic of my finger, but I'm pretty sure no one wants to see stitches...
