Folding@Home 20th Anniversary Folding Competition - Lots of prizes up for grabs !

As an innocent bystander to this 'skirmish' looking to learn about folding, 'grats & kudos to you all...

...it was a hoot to follow here, and I learned a bit about folding.

I used to think, even after doing sub-zero XOC for years, that old hardware never really died but just ended up taking a long fiesta in the storeroom or years - but clearly, I was wrong.

By the way, you can see how many 17800 units I received the last day. 120 units for 18 mil points and the day before was 87 units for 20 mil points. Those units are way too small to load big GPU's, it has been a subject of discussion on the folding forum too. Did notice anything with those units on your systems?

I think I got a few of the low PPD units as well. Don't have HFM running on any of my clients, so not tracking. But did see a couple.

Congrats all and thanks again @ENTERPRISE for hosting a 5 day.....errr 4 day foldathon.

@MinotaurtooIm usually 24/7 stable, but of course for the foldathon one system decides to f that up.  Its an Ubuntu rig and I recently upgraded to 20.04 which doesnt play well with fahclient, so Im pretty sure I know what the issue is.

@Bastiaan_NL the 17800 do seem to prefer smaller or maybe older GPUs.  My 1070s dont seem to notice them at all with similar PPD to other WUs but my 2060s lose 10-15% vs other projects.

Next time you need to be here to help us, with only a fraction of your hardware we can do more than 100mil ppd together! :classic_biggrin:

No crash here either! Funny enough, this morning I did some tweaking on one of the cards and it decided to crash :classic_laugh:

I might have said something like: ".... this, no point in adding more cards" :classic_laugh:

But for real, I texted my brother: "never mind, I don't need your cards anymore. I already lost this competition..."

The 1660ti only dropped 100k ppd compared to 3 million ppd on the 3090's. Someone said that a 7xx card did better with the 17800 than any other unit so far, kinda funny.

Thanks again to everyone who made this event possible and congratulations to all the winners!

I had one crash on my two computers, but it was because I tried to push it to far with a 4.5 GHz overclock on my 7800x.  It can maintain 4.3 GHz though.

I can safely say i had the most crashes out of everyone, i'll take that award.

Also repasted my 980tis today and got the temps back in check. Nice and clean. What isnt clean is my apartment. Dropped my 570X Side panel 3 inches onto my desk as i went to set it on the case and it exploded like a ballistic missile. I had glass 20ft across my apartment. And of course everyone is out of stock on them. If anyone has a Corsair 570X Case / Side panel they'd be willing to sell hmu xD.

That is funny, because I do. I had the back panel on a 570x explode on me in the basement a few months ago.  Shipping it safely would cost more than a new case though.
