  1. Let me sum it up VERY simply..... Snake oil! There's a sucker born every minute though EDIT: Hey, look at that. They say so in the article too!

I think that was me, but you know.....being lazy boomers and all I can't be futzed to scroll up. I do NOT get by without coffee, that was the joke. First thing I usually do upon awakening is go for some good old java. I was, for some odd reason, browsing EXHW that morning before my coffee. -_- Do not recommend btw.
  3. Merry Christmas E! Little early for it, but whatever. And a happy holidays to anyone that doesn't celebrate Christmas. Don't forget to PUT DOWN the phones and electronic devices this year, enjoy your families everyone!
  4. Gotcha. I wasn't sure, but figured I'd try to help anyway lol. The timings on those are pretty tight, you might need more voltage to the IMC perhaps? Idk, all my setups (so far) have the IMC on die so my old tinkering is a tad different than what you're playing with. As others stated already, the X5470 is absolutely one of the best Xeons you can mod into these old 775 boards. It's a 333 / 1333 FSB chip with a 10x multiplier. Very easy 400 FSB to get to 4GHz with it. Good 775 boards can do ~450-500 FSB. That 10x multi really does help a TON. I had mine at 4.2GHz on a 965p board on a proper loop back when I did it. And I saw that picture of the rig together. Holy brick man! That's one CHUNKY rig!!!
  5. It's probably the TPN thing yeah. It wasn't a requirement for 10, so nope its not on.
  6. Extremely early DDR3 memory controller. Did the Core 2 boards even run DDR3 1600 speeds? I thought it was the original Core i7's that first started hitting 1600 speeds with Intel? Maybe try 1333 speeds to see if its a board limitation? I don't know for sure, I never ran DDR3 on the Core 2 systems.
  7. I don't think the requirements changed any, my sig rig still doesn't' qualify.

Adults made their way here? Where?
  9. I can't wait. I've been just ITCHING to put together one of the Socket A rigs even though my 939'er isn't quite complete yet lol.

Welcome! I'm not sure why we're all here, but I like here better than there. Makes sense to my non coffee'd brain right now.
  11. So, the Socket A CPU......don't worry about it. I have a 1100MHz T-Bird, and a 2500+M sitting here I intended on using. The Palimino was an extra. The board was the big concern on that one, as its a MUCH better board to actually use on a Socket A setup over the ECS I have sitting here of the same era. The 1100MHz T Bird will go in that board. The 939 boards..... The good chipset cooler board with the Asus logo, is in fact the one I bent in half too roughly and assumed busted traces. It had previously been capable of high FSB speeds. I assumed bad traces because I couldn't get it to boot. However, now after playing with this good 939 board I still have here at the house, that very well could've just been user error because this board was doing the same thing. I had to unhook all other drives FIRST, then it'll boot. Oops. Sooooooo, if that board DOES in fact work, that'll actually end up being the second board that'll be in use. The A8N Premium will be the other. The other 32 laned board was just a happy accidental buy, it came in a case I bought without any regard for what was inside.
  12. Well, I wasn't originally trying to go straight to WAN, I was just simply trying to port forward through the VPN. When that didn't work, I setup the second LAN as a backup idea so I could still game on my main rig. It just leaves my entire server behind the firewall, and not accessible outside of the house.
  13. I had almost 4 million for 5 minutes. I'd have attempted to cash out had I seen it.
  14. That is how my setup is, yes. LAN1 (VPN) is my normal LAN where daily use goes on because VPN. LAN 2 literally just goes to a seperate wireless AP (old router) and is not on the VPN, no. Firewall, best as I can tell is 100% disabled on it. The DNS service I'm using is an entirely different bug of some kind of my missetup I'm sure. Of course anything I'm trying to connect to via the DNS is going to be through the VPN'ed LAN1 network. I can connect through the DNS on my LAN2 somehow, but actually over the internet the DNS cannot be seen. Here's a screenshot of my port forwarding page under NAT's, which I believe is the correct spot here. I tried swapping the ports around as well and didn't seem to do any good. Ironically Plex still works outside the home, but only via transcoding. Says I lack a direct connection. I assume ports, but I suppose could be VPN related there. EDIT: The blacked out ones are RDP connections that do not work outside of the home but should. The Minecraft servers don't work outside of the home either. And the ports for "Steam Rig" were just me attempting to get Steam voice chat to work over the VPN, which it never did work.
  15. Well shoot, anybody want to give me a hand with figuring out why I can't port forward out through my LAN1 (VPN) setup? Would be nice to NOT have to swap networks everytime I want to fire up a game. My "naked" LAN2 setup is far from safe and secure lol. AV and adblocking I usually just put on every "client" rig / device in the house. So really my only issue is my DNS not working properly for some odd reason and I cannot get ports to forward at all. It's more than likely just me getting confused because I have two LAN's setup, or maybe the DNS isn't setup properly causing problems, or I'm doing the ports wrong entirely. This thing is also a LOT more technical than anything I've ever played with in the past.....that could have part to do with it too. Even if not, no big deal. My setup "works" as is, I just don't like gaming naked on the internet.
  16. 3.6GHz on a 65nm Core 2 Quad......man that's not a bad chip. And under 1.40v? That's basically an unlocked Q6600 G0 if I'm not mistaken, so damn good overclock on it so far! Your early quad rig is quite a huge step up from the one I built lol. That's one seriously mean retro rig. Love it! I was very pleasantly surprised by how well my Phenom I 9850BE rig runs too in 2021. Seems like ANY quad core CPU is still at the very least "usable" today. Let me know if you get bored and want to run Left 4 Dead 2, Killing Floor, or any other era appropriate titles that I might have lol. It's one thing to build it and see it run, its entirely different enjoying a game on it.
  17. I just hope the 790 SLI board is compatible with the Xeon mods, that was one thing I wasn't sure on was board compatibility. I always ran the Intel series boards back then (for the mods), 965p, p35 and p45 boards.
  18. All that means to me is cheap crypto to buy!
  19. I think the AI meant lasagna for you! Welcome Garfield36! Hope you enjoy your stay here. EDIT: Why must I pick on the AI? -_-
  20. @ENTERPRISE or other moderators, feel free to remove if needed or wanted. I just want to put some good thoughts / feelings out to our overclockers and hardware modders in tornado alley tonight. Just heard on social media there was a giant tornado in TN and rumored in IL as well (Amazon warehouse?). I'm not sure the exact details, but apparently it was a giant F5, and might have done some seriously overwhelming damage to a lot of people in its wake. If we could all just take a moment and give them some well wishes, it might help. Hey....it can't hurt anything. So, from the bottom of my heart, I hope everyone in that area is safe tonight and well. And I hope you all know (every single one of you guys here) how much I you guys / gals. No bromo. May everyone effected at the very least be safe and well. Material possessions can be replaced. Please do NOT post images and if you find a news story and want to share it, please make sure the images in the news story aren't too catastrophic (or at least give a warning).
  21. Same here too. It's looking more and more like I might switch to Linux on my main rig before I go to Windows 11. I've gotten pretty good with Mint and Kubuntu both. Seriously, my sig rig says its not compatible (probably because of the trusted computing thing but whatever). That shouldn't be a requirement to run a dang OS anyway. They allow ARM and Atom based systems to run Windows, why can't older but capable hardware run it? (Looking at my FX, Phenom II, and Phenom rigs that WOULD be powerful enough.) And no, Windows 7 doesn't update unless you were already updated before. If you're on an original Win7 install, no service packs or anything, seems like you're screwed (just installed 7 on a rig last night). Either that or I'm an idiot since I haven't used 7 in years, that's always a possibility. Needed 7 installed on my 939 rig since 10 was too heavy to run on it.
  22. My Socket 939 rig that's functional now has Windows 7 on it, and I feel like a complete idiot. This good A8N SLI board was showing the same exact signs of failure as the A8N32 SLI Deluxe, and the same as the A8N SLI Premium. I figured out the problem, was PEBKAC. Apparently, the good old trick of ONLY having your drive plugged in that you intend to install Windows to......that was the trick to making these work. Any other drives connected (especially IDE when using SATA drives too), the machine won't boot from USB and install proper. To get Windows / any OS to install via USB, you HAVE to have just the USB stick plugged in and your destination drive. ALL other drives MUST be disconnected, otherwise it won't write the boot.ini properly or something (won't boot). I knew this was a "thing" back then, but honestly I forgot it was a thing on 939. I honestly didn't think I would run into these kinds of silly BIOS glitches till Socket A. The machine DID function just fine on Windows 10 32bit, which was a surprise. However, sadly, Windows 10 does NOT function very well on a dual core at all. With all the background processes going on, the poor CPU was at 100% load 24/7 and it was an absolute nightmare to even try to use it to web browse because of that. If this were a dual Socket 940 rig with 2 dual cores installed instead of just one, it would operate perfectly and probably be a wonderful daily driver. Luckily Windows 7 doesn't exhibit those same problems. I was just hoping that all of my "multicore" systems could run it, but nope....not duallies. The ZIP250 drive I have installed in the 939 rig is also broken. Too bad its outside of the 30 day warranty ebay allows as it most definitely arrived broken. -_- Oh well...... It's now 110% alive, functioning, overclocked to 2.90GHz, and I even played Killing Floor and Left 4 Dead on the 939 rig last night. Made me very happy. The 4 questionable boards are being sent out to Bones this week (thank you again Bones, seriously). He's going to take a whack at trying to recover these things before I go and blow more money on old worthless junk.
  23. My Ryzen rig says its not capable of running Windows 11. So guess I'm sitting this one out.
  24. Ahh yes. I completely forgot about that.
