A Move To Advertising

Hello all. 

 

Originally my plan was to keep EHW ad free for everyone as nobody really likes advertisements and I include myself in that category. However, with the recent massive  increases in the cost of living in the UK, I am now considering bringing advertising to the site so that the site can start working towards being a self sustaining entity. After taking a long hard look at finances, it is clear that my monthly "Free" pool of money is decreasing. As I say, this is mostly due to the increase in the cost of living plus some personal factors that I cannot get into.

 

As we all are aware, sites cost money to run on a monthly basis with the hosting, Security/CDN, Remote backups, SEO etc etc, this does not include development work to bring features to the community to make it a better place to be.  

 

I will in the coming weeks begin looking into advertisements, this will include your standard ads (Google) and hopefully some sponsor places ads. 

 

This was not the sort of move I wanted to make but for the site overall, it will be a beneficial move. It likely goes without saying that anyone who is a Premium Subscriber will not see the ads. Ads will only be viewable by standard members, or if you are logged out.

I saw this coming and you kept it add free for a few years and that counts for something. We get it. If Ads keep the site running, then it is a necessary evil.

Do you also plan on advertising the site, not as in ads on the site but as in advertising to attract more users?

Totally understand E, and we thank you for keeping it ad free for as long as you did. But gotta pay the bills somehow.

I talked to him about that i think it planned but not right now.  Would be nice to get more people

No seriously though I do agree, quality of content and users > numbers.

 

And E, no big deal mate, you do what you need to do to keep the lights on.  I think we all at least appreciate the fact that you're honest with us in the move, and that's really all we can ask as end users.

It was more of a reminder of something that has been on my mind towards the beginning of the year ahah, but it is good as I am not moving on it lol.

I'm glad to see you take the steps necessary towards sustainability for the forums. I can tell based on your posts you had a certain goal but I believe you can navigate sustainability with a good experience
