It is a relief knowing I am not the only person  that finds that design flaw stupid and inconvenient.

It is  scary to think that people that design stuff we use are that dumb.

lol, it could be like my gigabyte board with the main m.2 slot under the main pci-e slot for my video card and the second m.2 slot butting up against the cmos battery keeping the choice of a heatsink limited...

This might come in handy for Manhattan... I am testing it and it seems to work well.

Now we need a similar third-party motherboard lighting control so we can skip the Window Store dung that the numbskulls at ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte have moved to. It is really stupefying to see what a worthless posse of idiots work for these OEMs.

To the best of my knowledge, EVGA is the ONLY one that hasn't prostituted their software into a UWP feces distribution model. But, they don't have fan control except in the BIOS as far as I know.

Exactly like that. Many of the fancy M.2 heat sinks are totally unusual due to current motherboard design. The newer EVGA motherboards (Z590, Z690 and X570 Dark and Classified) have insanely huge and effective if not overkill (can't hate that) NVME heat sinks, but most of the current motherboard designs have pathetic OEM thermal solutions for NVMe drives, along with the physical impediments to using something good like you just pointed out with your example.

If you have a Dark or Classified mobo, don't waste your time with the fan or lighting app. Neither the lighting nor the fan apps work with the Z490 Dark. The fan app detects the sensors, but there are no software controls available for the fan headers. The lighting app doesn't detect anything at all. The RGB and ARGB headers are not visible to the app and neither is the RGB keyboard.

So, both are utterly worthless on EVGA. But, the cool part is I don't really need the lighting app on the system with the Z490 Dark because the EVGA app isn't UWP feces. It would be nice to have a way to control the fans connected to the motherboard headers without having to go into the BIOS to change things.

Regarding the Atlas II bracket mods I've been working on to mount the dual D5/dual res/manifold assy, no matter the option I chose, I kept going back to idea of modding the Atlas II oem side bracket. I just wasn't happy with the way my own brackets were turning out for me and I must say I am pretty happy thus far with the modded oem side bar. I did the cutting, filing, sanding, then primed with self etching rustoleum, then covered that with rustoleum's black hammered metal. It's a bit more glossy than the original powdercoat finish and I might cut that down a bit in a day or so using a light rub; and it needs to sit 48 hours to ensure it's fully dry before I mount it again:

Okay, think this is it (iteration #973). Sanded the Atlas II's modified bracket down to 1500 grit, gave it a few coats of dead flat top coat, mounted the pumps after sleeving their cables with paracord, and added some 3M Di-Noc to the cover plates for the pumps. Di-Noc still needs a wee bit more of a fine trim.

dual-d5-res-combo-042922.thumb.jpg.5f3339fa1f762b435ad1d3a65866ed33.jpg

Also countersunk the four corner mounting holes on the bracket. Made for a much cleaner installation.

Any word on your Supercool order yet? Nothing on my end. I messaged them yesterday to request a status on when it should ship, but no response yet. Order was placed on Monday.  Feels similar to trying to get answers from OptimusPC... eventually respond, but not timely or with any  sense of urgency.

Thanks for the kind words, bud 🙂 Made me feel like my new doo looks great 🤪

I'm not concerned about the SuperCool order yet simply because of the nature of the purchase and they/he did spell out 10 days for rush shipping. I don't think I'm ready to compare them to Optimus yet because Optimus should know better (but they obviously don't care as far as standards of care go).

Me, I'd probably give it another week or so before I'd start any real inquiry. Maybe a few weeks more before initiating any sort of quasi-panic mode (though we did suspect the purchase experience might be dodgy from the git-go). Worst case scenario might be requesting a refund by way of PayPal.

Anyway, totally irrelevant, but btw, did you know Baht bugs are a delicacy in Thailand? That's a throwback to my earlier days in the military.

I don't really  have any doubt they will come through. I just find lousy customer service and lack of communication to be very irritating. But, if that's just part of the deal and tolerating it is something required to receive the product, then so be it. It's certainly something that has become more common. We have become socially engineered to expect speed and immediate answers. It's hard to put up with anything less now.

I still remember as a kid ordering things from a magazine ad, sending a money order by snail mail and waiting 6 to 8 weeks for it to show up.

As far as the Baht bugs go, uhhhmmm, nope I'm good. They can have my portion. Eww.

I suspect we're more or less of the same mind and a number of experiences as well; especially since I too "remember being a kid ordering things from a magazine ad, sending a money order by snail mail and waiting 6 to 8 weeks for it to show up." I also remember the world's population being ~3 billion at the time instead of rocketing skyward toward oblivion; and being fairly well off without having a need for smartphones or the Internet.

Mindless bunny rabbits seem to have fixed all that though.

Lastly, this time around, yeah, I find the notion of eating large creepy crawlies gross myself, no matter how you fry them. I just tossed that tad bit of info in there coz Thailand, and for effect.

but bats, who eats bats...?

100%. Sometimes (often) I think smartphones are one of the most diabolical inventions known to man. Not the dumb device itself; it's exactly that--a dumb device. But, the way is it secretly exploited for nefarious purposes. There is no doubt in my mind that it will be a gateway to things that would make us squirm/vomit/go postal if knew what was coming later, or if we knew what was happening now that we're completely oblivious to. As they say, ignorance is bliss. Ditto all the above for the internet. Amazing tools in the hands of bad people, unaccountable and self-anointed to be the ones in control.

But, it's got what plants crave.  Now go away, batin.

The two things I still haven't forgiven my parents for not allowing me to order are X-ray specs and SeaMonkeys. I mean c'mon now... what 3rd grader doesn't need those things. They had to work. Every magazine had advertisements for them.

Yeah, same here.

Here's one that might sell well today:

space-cad.thumb.jpg.ee9cb440d1390484e2c4524800f3922f.jpg

Indeed. It would sell like hotcakes on the internet, or on the impulsive buy-me shelves next to the checkout stands at Walmart and Target. And, there are a lot more "Space Cadets" today than there were when we were kids. They're just older cadets now. Sadly, they're allowed to breed and do other things that we'd all be better off if they couldn't do. I had forgotten about that helmet. Add it to the list of unforgivable denials of childhood, LOL. 😆

Seriously though... thank God our parents weren't stupid. That's more normal today that I would care to admit, but not as normal as some members of society would like it to be. It just makes the brainwashing so much easier with stupid parents.
