Another day, another death...

Quote

Procol Harum frontman Gary Brooker, who led the band throughout their 55-year history and co-wrote and sang their 1967 classic “A Whiter Shade of Pale,” died at his home from cancer on Saturday, Feb. 19. He was 76.

We skipped the light fandango
Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
But the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
The waiter brought a tray

And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly
Turned a whiter shade of pale

She said, there is no reason
And the truth is plain to see
But I wandered through my playing cards
And would not let her be
One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast
And although my eyes were open
They might have just as well've been closed

And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face at first just ghostly
Turned a whiter shade of pale

She said, 'I'm home on shore leave,'
Though in truth we were at sea
So I took her by the looking glass
And forced her to agree
Saying, 'You must be the mermaid
Who took Neptune for a ride.'
But she smiled at me so sadly
That my anger straightway died

And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face at first just ghostly
Turned a whiter shade of pale

If music be the food of love
Then laughter is its queen
And likewise if behind is in front
Then dirt in truth is clean
My mouth by then like cardboard
Seemed to slip straight through my head
So we crash-dived straightway quickly
And attacked the ocean bed

And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face at first just ghostly
Turned a whiter shade of pale

I've been on a 90's kick again lately so this is what I'm listening to right now..... :lachen:

Was the first song I ever chose myself as a kid to like, after branching out from my parent's listening choices.  Ironically I still like the stuff they liked too though, weird.

. . . and now for something different (a trip through the amusement park):

the writ tends to raise the hairs on the back of my neck. not sure why that is:

since the first time i heard it back around ca. 1970,

i haven't heard a song that's personally more downright troubling:

play the next one for oh, say 8-10 seconds, then start the one
that follows it, playing both at the same time:

and last but not least, a trip through the amusement park
(because life can be like that sometimes):

brought to you by the gang and others like them

at nurse wretched wench's house for the wayward male
