  1. Alright, so as soon as I can figure out how to re-wire the front panel on that old Socket 7 K6 build, oops......I can start building that one. I did lose the spring that goes to the power supply switch on the front panel. Not sure how I'm going to find a replacement for THAT. -_- FX rig - I have a fix for it coming. Ordered a CHV motherboard. I probably should replace the 240mm AIO with a 280mm as well (and hope my 240 is still good for other uses). A motherboard should most definitely fix it though. I'll get the Socket 939 crossfire board recapped soon. I'm missing a proper case for that build, probably some other minor bits and bobs too, but its also not really a NECESSARY build since I already have 2 functioning 939 builds. None of these rigs are high end clockers by any means. But they're almost all "good" builds from their appropriate eras. Been working on getting them all installed and imaged as well, so they're easy to reinstall later. That's been another thing I've been very slowly working through. I absolutely WILL have this full collection complete in 2024 though. I'll probably have to start a new thread, or really REALLY update this one when they're done to properly show them all off. Idk. Stay tuned though, big things for this collection are coming in 2024!
  2. Well, I won the offer on that Crosshair V with the FX 6200 combo. $100 shipped (plus tax). So I'll be putting a CHV in my FX rig soon, I'll just live with one of the two 8350's. I'm sure one of the two CPU's probably still works fine. I'll probably buy a better AIO cooler for it before I'll buy a FX 9590. Maybe the 8350 will clock sufficiently for me again.
  3. Picking up a 7900x system here soon. Anything I should know jumping from a 5800x guys? Or is it just XMP / PBO and go? I can probably handle that.
  4. Merry Christmas, Happy New Years, Happy Holidays, whatever floats your boat. You guys are all absolutely amazing, and I look forward to another year hanging out with all you nerds.
  5. Oh heck man I didn't know that. That's great! I thought you shoved upgrades in there lol.
  6. I still say you should've put original hardware back in it. It's just not the same charm IMO. Those pinball machines really don't require a bunch of power. It's awesome you've got it back up and running though. Nothing "wrong" with giving it upgrades, I just like seeing stuff like this original if its possible. Retains value better for collectors. But hey, if the owner's happy with it that's what matters.
  7. It's usually not worth it for the PPD output to be honest. But for the friendly competitions, why not?
  8. Why not, one last run during the winter. In - pioneerisloud If I'm not too late. Won't be scoring high, but it'll keep me warmer the next few days with the 6900XT going!
  9. Okay, so I can confirm its the motherboard. Swapped SSD's out this evening, and it still won't run without freezing completely. I was able to get Windows installed (all settings auto / stock), but it froze during installation of programs. I could swap RAM out, but I really REALLY doubt its RAM. It's not BSOD'ing or crashing. It's locking up completely. Yup, looking like after Christmas I might be ebay searching for another good AM3+ board now. I don't trust the Gigabyte I have with an FX (besides, its running my Phenom II 1100T happily). FX was definitely a part of my "collection". Sigh. -_- So let this be a lesson guys, be wary of cheap adapters for HDMI things. -_- I'm 99.9% sure that backfeeding HDMI cable is what caused my Sabertooth's failure here.
  10. Alright I'll try a different SSD next. I do have other RAM I can try too, I really don't think its RAM but I can swap it out. Normally I'd expect RAM to cause a BSOD not a whole system lockup. SSD, I've never had a SSD fail before so I wouldn't know what to expect there. So yeah I'll try another SSD first. Just grrr. -_-
  11. Bump (please read full OP for history): Pulled out the FX rig again last night to give it a try. Here's how it went. -_- 1) Ran it at bone stock "auto" everything. 4.2 boost, 4.0 all core (auto), around 1.35v, DDR3-1333 @ 11-11-11-30-1T timings (RAM is 1866 10-10-10-30 stock but used to pull 9-10-9 at 2000). System installed Windows 10 just fine like this, all my main programs, and even ran Prime95 for over an hour. 2) Okay.jpg, seems better right? Tried overclocking it. Just 4.5GHz, should be easy. Freeze, 10 minutes in. Didn't change ANYTHING else, just multiplier and upped voltage to a reasonable 1.45v. 3) Okay, something's not right, MORE VCORE. Slowly started raising, up to 1.55v (in increments because it kept freezing). Freezing is just happening faster and faster now. 4). Tried again at 4.2GHz (stock boost), but set to all core. Still nothing but freezing, faster yet than before. 5). End the evening with it set 110% back to all auto everything (where it passed fine earlier in the evening). It's now freezing about 1 minute - 2 minutes in. System is: Sabertooth 990FX FX 8350 (I've tried 2) 2x8GB GSkill DDR3-1866 eVGA B5 750w PSU (had a 650GT and the old 750BQ in there too) MSI RX 580 8GB, Sapphire 290x, Sapphire 380, I could try an Nvidia card but I doubt its the GPU at this point (580 is still in it) 1x 256GB NVME SSD in a PCIe slot adapter NO SATA INSTALLED YET So again, I've swapped CPU's, GPU's, PSU's, and none have fixed it yet. Does this random freezing problem sound more like a motherboard or a memory problem? I'd imagine if it were the SSD or RAM it'd be crashing not just halting the system. I don't get it. And its happening faster and faster the more I use it. I'm ALMOST thinking its caps for power delivery on the motherboard maybe from getting backfed that voltage through HDMI? I really don't know! ANY IDEAS? I know its a long read.
  12. That was a really good read @RageSet! Glad you ended up enjoying the drive.
  13. You're telling me man. I paid $49.99 free ship for mine on Amazon back in 2007 or 2008, probably 2008. It was definitely a shocker to see that price tag for me too.
  14. I only get those rates because of a $30 / month discount for being on assistance programs. -_- But yeah, overall their pricing isn't HORRIBLE at Spectrum. Seems like Comcast has the same problem as Spectrum with their upload speeds. For me, trying to host servers for EHW and gaming and what not, this 10 Mbps upload is pathetic. And even jumping to a business plan wouldn't solve it, its the same plans just with a static IP.
  15. I actually recently went through a similar thing when ISP shopping. I was on the 350 down speed before hand. Settled on the 100Mbps plan this go around. Other than my game downloads, I see absolutely zero practical difference. With the discount plan I'm on, my 100Mbps line is free. The 350 plan is $20. Gig would be $50. I know, I'm one of the outcasts in this instance, but I just can't justify spending $50 / month for a gig line, when it gets me to the same exact places the free line does. Also, the upload speed is unchanged with those plans. I get 10 Mbps up on the 100 and 350 lines. I think the gig line gets a boost to 25 Mbps upload, I think. That's where I need faster speeds at is my uploads, and Spectrum doesn't have any plans that would suite my needs there.
  16. THIS THREAD IS NOW ABOUT TRAINS! (Been wanting to use that meme for years again)
  17. Still waiting for the initial promise of bringing fiber to every area in the US. Still have a Spectrum monopoly here and its REALLY frustrating. -_-
  18. Oh yours runs on BATTERIES! I didn't catch that part! That's actually super useful. The Metro ones plug in, they're literally a backwards vacuum lol. Very very powerful. I'd be interested in seeing a comparison, I might grab one of those after Christmas, just so I can have the attachments (mine are all missing now after ~15 ish years).
  19. I'll be honest, I've not seen too many James Cameron films. I have seen Titanic and Avatar (the first one only). Out of those 2, I'd say Titanic, because c'mon......who didn't like the painting scene? Amirite fellas? Nah, but seriously, Titanic was actually a really engaging story regardless of it being a "chick flick" or not. I thought he did a great job with that movie. Avatar was also a fantastic storyline, and had the visuals to back it up too. I do need to sit down and rewatch Avatar and the new one, see if its any good. Also, been looking at this game for a while now. I'd like to get a copy anyway, it looks like it MIGHT be the closest thing to Crysis multiplayer in 2023. Looks like a fun game. So yes, please........count me in.
  20. QFT. I'm all for innovation and whatnot, but we really shouldn't be combining "natural" with unnatural elements like this. There's a time when scientists really should stop asking, "can we?" and they should instead start asking "should we?". -_-
  21. Just a cheaper version of the same one I've been using for like 15 years. Good ol' Metro Datavac. They really are worth their pricetag. I can't say about the cheap ones like you linked, but the Metro branded ones are freaking tanks and last forever. Amazon.com WWW.AMAZON.COM
  22. Alright, just put a brand new coat of beige onto this old box that I ordered like 2 years ago from Russia. System was $50 shipped, all the way from Russia! It had a Socket 7 mainboard in it (with the AT / serial keyboard / mouse plugs, no USB etc). I believe it had a K6 500 in it, which I'll just downclock to like 200MHz. This is going to be my last and FINAL build for the collection. I do have some repairs to do on 2 of the systems, my FX rig seems to have a major problem of some kind. And also, I have a crossfire Skt 939 system that needs recapped. Otherwise, this was the oldest I was wanting to go. Stay tuned, I'm really hoping early next year I'll be able to start the actual fun with these..........enjoying them! Anyway, for now, enjoy watching the paint dry. It's what I did the last 2 days.
