The Accident Thread

Not sure how it works there but here any accidents involving someone making a left turn at an intersection, it's 100% the person's turning fault. I know cause I totaled my car doing just that 4 years ago. Other driver was likely distracted or speeding but that didn't matter. Then again our insurance just sucks balls here.

Just saw the second crash. lol I'm waiting to see the third video since bad things come in threes. Not sure what that person was thinking, you had the right of way not her.

Did you get banned on that other site again, I saw that "Banned" tag under your name.

It varies state by state down here. So one might have a law where the left turn driver is automatically at fault while others don't.

Yeah until the 30th.

Yeah it varies by province by province here as well. Some you can prove they had time to break for it not to be 100%.

Oh are you in the land of extremely rip off Insurance too? I have classic car insurance for my S2000 that affords it to be relatively cheap ($90/mo right now but could go down to $60/mo if I had daily driver). Can't believe it's more than my insurance when I got my first car in South Africa.

Also been lucky to never be in an accident myself. Only had my car hit in parking lots or been in cars with other people when they've had accidents.

Are you sure you aren't psychic? This was a near miss last night. Guy obstructing the entire right lane of a 50MPH highway, at night. What was that movie where a bunch of teens cheated death, but death found a way to kill them all eventually? Yea, it's that, just with accidents.

The plot thickens. I swear I'm having an anxiety attack. So I filled the claim on HER insurance (Geico). I finally managed to reach the agent handling my case and asked some questions, like when can I get my rental car? I was met with you need to follow up with YOUR own insurance, because coverage of rental's is not possible to the "At fault" driver. I said EXCUSE ME? She told me that the woman who hit me said I was parked on the side of the road, pulled out onto the highway and struck her vehicle. The kicker is that I also just spoke to the officer who responded and he told me she was arrested for DUI. I can't wait to get the video and police report over to them. I asked the rep how she felt about her member commiting insurance fraud. She said "Sir, it's not insurance fraud, just her telling her view of how it happened". CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT *?

Wow, I haven't had to deal with any of that sort of nonsense before. My last accident was caught on traffic cam (cameras over the lights on a major intersection), but now thinking I should get a dash cam one of these days that points front and back.

That last accident was me turning left on a major intersection (my green arrow light, 2 turning lanes, I was on the inner lane) and a car came barreling through the street I was turning into, clipped the rear corner of my car and kept going through the intersection. It was snowing, so yet again a car with bad tires on. I had my snow tires on so had I not had a slow poke SUV in front of me also turning, I could have sped up just slightly to avoid the hit. Oh well.

They kept sliding through the intersection, kept going and hit 2 more cars on the next intersection over. I reported it as a hit and run. So when police pulled the footage I got extremely lucky as they knew who hit me as she got stopped at the next intersection over. She hit 3 cars that night.

The only time I had a totally FUBAR experience was when both myself and the teenager who rear ended my car (bald tires again, like metal belts showing bald and wet road), had the same exact insurance company. They kept fighting me and I was like, hey I am your customer too, idiots. Then called my agent and said hey, you guys are screwing me over and he promptly dealt with it and everything got fixed.

Yea, I kind of want one with a rear facing as well. This one is pretty good though. It actually can take 4K video, but only at 30Hz. It will do 2k at 60Hz. With how often I'm being hit, I may gift mine to a family member and get a better one with both facing cameras.

let your insurance know that the other driver's insurance is refusing you a rental (assuming they already know you're not at fault). Your insurance (should) offer to pay for the rental and then fight the other company to get reimbursed. I was a rep and an adjuster for a few years, a good portion of rentals ended up being worked out that way.

let the insurance companies do the work, it's what you pay for 🙃

Firefox, I think it's entirely on my end. I get this pretty often on other websites as well.

Same on my end, Firefox showing the same "No video with supported blah,blah..."

Edit: I just copy and pasted the address into a tab on chrome and it opened with the video ready to play with no issue, so my guess is it's a video codec that Firefox needs added to it's extensions.

Edit#2 If I right click the video, it gives me options (see attachment screenshot) and opening it in a new tab the video plays fine. 🤨 Anything to make me work an extra click into viewing experience lolScreenshot_854.thumb.jpg.0cf5b47e0e0ac66d2e7f6bc0587913d3.jpg
