7800x3d bundle from micro center

long story short, wifes 3080 laptop died, they gave us $2900 in gift cards, she got a new laptop and i got an upgrade

https://www.microcenter.com/product/669547/acer-nitro-17-an17-41-r5y5-173-gaming-laptop-computer-obsidian-black#

Oh must have been under the MC warranty? I almost always end up picking one up, we've had to replace a few accessories like keyboards and headsets and they literally just give you a gift card for the amount you bought it for and you go buy a brand new one with it.

yep, they value cost of parts v cost of machine, if it goes higher than 70% value, they don't fix.

needed a mainboard and a keyboard.

bonus, they let me keep the 1TB phison NVME out of the laptop

The government says I need this, which is a load of nonsense. I don't use the brakes anyway. That's for slowing down.

I'd say, don't get too excited over the PTM7950. I used it on my waterblock and had 10c higher temps compared to Prolimatech PK-3 Nano that I swear by. So off went the PTM and back on went my PK-3.

Your mileage may vary but I hope it works for you Orion.

...I need to flush and update that CPU/GPU loop anyway; first put this loop together in early 2021 and with QD4s, just updated CPU and GPU / blocks without replacing fluids - fluids still look fairly good for 3 years +...just not sure yet if I will use the PTM7950 paste or pads on the CPU as well as the GPU

It was time to replenish my home office PSU reserves for units with 1200W and up (used the last one I had available in a recent work-related build). I checked the reviews on this TT and they are quite decent...and it was on sale for just under ~ US$ 200

Got a deal on a slightly used 42" LG C4 and moved the 48" C1 to the living room.

On one hand it feels weird to downsize. On the other hand, for my desk, this size feels much better.

Quote button seems to be broken, but I just picked up one of the best PSUs ever built for US $215.  Super Flower must be clearing out new old stock.  I got the PSU yesterday, and it is a legit brand new PSU. I think only the EVGA variety of this was originally available in the states.

Yup...quote button is kaput ... @tictoc  never mind the price, that is a superb PSU; there is also a 2000 W version but for that you need ~ 220 V.  My guess is that Super Flower Leadex is prepping a ATX 3.0 version w/ native '12VHPWR' (or whatever those are called now) and giving great deals for current stock. I got my first ATX 3.0 PSU the other day on sale - it does seem to make a (minor) difference compared to Kraken and 2x, 4x PCIe cables > 12VHPWR on my 4090

Keeping up the tradition and adding more to the backlog. Some are short games.

- Machinarium has been on my wishlist for nearly 10 years. Love the soundtrack.

- Dusk is a metal / boomer shooter recommended by a friend. Seems like a fun romp.

- Love the Amnesia series and ready for WW1 trench psychological horror

- Last but not least, pre-ordered Frostpunk 2. Started playing Frostpunk a few nights ago and loving it. If you’re into strategy games, it’s definitely worth a try and only about $3 USD right now.

It isn't the latest greatest, but I finally broke down and bought a Thrustmaster T248 so I don't fail so bad at the racing sims... would have gotten the shifter too, but so many of my vehicles have more than 6 gears to go through, figured I'd just stick to the paddle shifters and maybe later get the shifter.

supposedly it's better than the onboard options even though it still uses the AQC113C chipset. kinda doubtful but I used a promo code and rewards and only paid ~$40.

planning on moving to AM5 or 1851 later this year and I have a feeling we'll get another shite lineup of 10 GbE mobos. considering it's the only high end feature I need maybe I can get away with a <$300 board instead of a >$450 one (assuming the TB/USB4 adapter works properly).
