The Accident Thread

Recommended Posts

I really don't get why people don't pick it up a bit when making a left across traffic... It was obvious that both you and the blue SUV in the lane next to you were approaching... Not sure why she would just casually pull out. She could have easily avoided the accident by just giving it a bit more gas and actually getting through the intersection in a timely fashion.

I have to turn left across traffic every morning to jump on the highway and there's always some indecisive person that holds it up forever. Or worse, causes an accident like yours. Although the alternative route would involve a roundabout and dropping into downtown Cincinnati before jumping on the highway and I'm definitely never in the mood to deal with that BS first thing in the morning

As far as speeding goes, less than 10 over is fine most of the time. As long as it's not residential or a school zone.

Avacado said the lady looked 80, so I'm guessing she never saw him. My mom is almost that old and I'm glad she doesn't drive. My dad does and he does some scary * that he isn't even aware of.

The video is interesting for hindsight theories. I'm glad no one got killed. Is the car considered totaled or are they going to fix it?

I have been in an accident and a near miss.

The actual accident was 90% my fault and 10% the other driver. I was making a turn onto a slip road, I looked both ways, at least I thought I had and as I was turning, an oncoming car went into the side of my. They were doing 40Mph in a 30 zone, hence they are note blameless.

I am was the silver car, the blue car was the car that hit me and the red van was an innocent by stander, though they luckily only had bumper damage.

Dude,I'd say it was a combination of both your faults. U speeding in a business zone, her not realizing you were going that fast and taking her time in her turn. If U look back(between 7-8 sec mark),she started her turn when you were still approaching the last business on the rights entrance, hardly the crosswalk, but took her time in the turn. If she hadn't left the scene, most cops would've handed YOU the ticket for that crash.🤨 Almost 10Mph over the limit in wet road conditions they'd give you reckless driving or the speeding ticket here in Oklahoma.PLUS you're insurance would suffer for paying for the wrecks.

Luckily I'm not in Oklahoma. Again, it just started to drizzle and the roads were not wet. I must admit, I was not expecting these comments from ALL of you. Good to know there are a bunch of puritans on the road who never go over the limit. In no state that I have ever lived in would a cop have handed a ticket to the person who got hit by the person that was supposed to yield on green for the left.

On a side note. I spoke to my insurance company which hers happened to be the same. The claims agent told me that she filed a claim on her vehicle saying that it was hit while parked at her house. She ended up filing a false insurance claim and the company is going to take action against her.

Unless anyone else plans on airing out their dirty vehicle laundry in this thread I suppose I'll delete it as all it's turned into is a Avacado was wrong thread. I've told you all, maybe I could have been doing a few miles less per hour. That didn't happen. I was not sited for reckless driving. But I can't believe the stances you guys are taking here. Thank you all for your contributions.

Don't know yet. I was able to drive it home. Will take it to the repair shop Tuesday. My guess is well over 5k in damage.

52 in a 45 is hardly "speeding".  I mean yeah, its technically speeding, but still.  Everybody does at least 5 over.  The people saying wreckless driving.....wreckless driving doesn't come in until you're doing at LEAST 15 over.  Worst case, it'd be a minor speeding ticket.  No different than if you caught a police officer on a bad day writing you up for 2 over (had it happen).  Either nobody in here has experience with the police, or ya'll have some seriously stuck up officers.  Insurance wouldn't EVER claim it as his fault either, why would they?  She clearly failed to yield to oncoming traffic.

Bro I'm from the bay area. We consider all traffic signs short of a red light to be suggestions at best. 85 MINIMUM on the freeway. But there is a time and place, you never want to be the fastest car on the road.

I still think it was mostly the other cars fault but there is a good chance a cop wouldn't have seen it that way since you were speeding. Just because you're not speeding by a lot, doesn't make you any less liable if it's a factor in an accident.

Even if it wasn't your fault that doesn't mean you couldn't have done more to make the accident less likely. You said yourself this is the third time this has happened to you. Bit of a common denominator thing going on.

Getting in car accidents is not something that should be sugar coated.

I had a Brit for a boss at that aforementioned horrible job. He was actually a fantastic boss until office politics and empire building by horrible people fired him. Anyway, he was great. I could throw 10 f-bombs to tell him how dev was screwing us on something and it didn't phase him. Throw one "bloody dev is bloody effing this bloody code up, etc." in the sentence and suddenly he's like "whoa, whoa, whoa".

Wow these light weight cars just get obliterated. Rachel's car looked like one of the ones in Enterprise's pictures. Yeah she bent my bumper, but man I'm glad my truck is mostly metal.

Edit: I keep watching the video, showed Michele, and I plan on showing the kids. Like I said, lots of hindsight. People drive really bad here. Like every intersection someone is turning in front of you like the car that got Avacado. I have got into the habit of easing off the gas when approaching intersections for years, just waiting on someone to do some stupid *, because they do. People run red lights here by like 5-10 seconds. It's bad.

That doesn't really have anything to do with the weight of the car, they all look like that after crashes these days. Engineers design cars in such a way that they absorb as much damage as possible to keep the occupants safe. Because of this, even a tiny crash makes a modern car look like it just got hit by a train.

A crash like that in cars from 20-25 years ago, at least one person would have been killed or severely injured. Most likely the driver of the blue car.

That is True, I think BMW drivers have the same ethos lol.

Yup, cars for a good while now have a massive crumple zone at the front, which I am glad for. Much rather the car was written off than my legs/life.

I would hate to have a head on with ye olde cars. Can you imagine the forces applied to your body. No thanks.

ROTFL, Puritans? My first ticket was for speeding, the cop clocked me passing a car that was doing under 50 in a 55 and clocked me @ 62Mph (New Jersey State troopers),After moving to MA, I got hit with doing over 20Mph over the speed limit. 48 in a 25 because the town cops clocked me off an overpass coming off a 6 lane divided highway with a limit of 65 and clocked me at the start of the exit ramp.(exit ramp is 25Mph)

Now,Oklahoma's whacked setup....

OKC = The following fines and costs apply if you pay your ticket on or before your court date.

$172 Speeding up to 10 mph over speed limit

$203 Speeding 11-19 mph over speed limit

$213 Speeding 20 mph over speed limit

$213 Speeding in a residential area

$193 Failure to yield right of way

$213 Failure to yield right of way to emergency vehicle

$213 Speeding in a school zone

$168 Transporting open container of beer or alcohol

$173 Vehicle equipment violation

What Qualifies As Reckless Driving in Oklahoma?

Unlike other states, no set speed limit determines reckless driving in Oklahoma. Reckless driving in Oklahoma is simply determined by the circumstances surrounding the incident. Any reckless driving traffic violation in Oklahoma is automatically categorized as a misdemeanor. To receive a reckless driving charge, the driver must violate Oklahoma’s speeding laws as well as operating their vehicle without regard for the safety of others.🙂

A couple of years ago I was hit in my new work van by a car with NO driver.  I was making the left here.

As soon as I turned the corner, about where the green dumpster is, I see a woman running next to her car with the door open.  The door knocks her over, the car literally runs her over and continues down the hill.  I tried to get over as far as I could in what little time I had, but it slammed into the side of me.  She had the car in reverse instead park when she got out.  Everyone was alright, even the woman that ran herself over.  😃  After it happened, I was glad her car ran into me instead continuing into 3 lanes of traffic.

That was fast. That guy did ask for permission to use the video and he put in my statement verbatim. So good deal.

Did you get paid for that? I know that guy is making bank.

It's only been 4 hours since that video got uploaded and he's already at 25K views. That's $150-$250 already.

No, no payment. There were like 5 other people asking for permission. I only gave it to that dude, he asked first. 🤷‍♂️
